do you think you will be on the evening news about a dude who owns a gym who interviews people, say you ask them if they are gay or they come in what you think is gay dress you will discriminate against them and they might sue the heck out of you for DISCRIMINATION!!!  that is so bad coach, I bet if they say they like Barack Obama you won't let them join either, I can see the government stepping in and shutting down this place.

Are you going to be the main source for juice? Let me run the show or I'll have to send the homies from Big Stanton to tax you 10% just for selling juice in the hood. Wha cha say?
Thats the sad part of doing business in a mafia controlled area like Orange County. Any yes it includes juice!

so if someone is fat (obese)  and is looking to get into shape...
but their not what you would call "elite" material
would you deny them a membership?
since technically they can sue you for discrimination...
what to do what to do ????

No, that's not what I said. Anyone can train they just have to be willing to have the attitude and committment to follow the program.

Good luck Coach,

So your old gym became too small for your established clientele plus others wishing to join, hence you're expanding? Great.

When you say you dont just give anyone a membership, does that mean you cater for specific forms of training only, e.g. athletes, strongman, powerlifting, etc?

nice shot first one shows a lot of improvement.

About the coach's gym though, I really doubt you can have an elitist type gym in a country that is in shit economy already.  This is like a gym for 5% of the population like someone else said.  Regular gyms that accept EVERYBODY have trouble getting by now let along only letting in 5% of clientele.

That's why I TRIED to wish him luck.  Its easier to turn a profit when you don't have a gym overhead plus an abundance of members of the gym for advertising.

Now he's going to have to pay for the building and he'll definitely no longer have the luxury of being selective to his clientele.  I think Joe will adapt to the circumstances but he won't turn a profit for at least 6 months.  Huntington Beach's demographics should allow his business to work and at least he already has a built up clientele.  He simply needs to keep everything in balance until its at a point to where he will make a profit from the gym.

One thing that helped me out a great deal was a company called GoSmallBiz.com.  Their advisors helped me build a number of relationships with other companies to sell their products and showed me how to turn my hobby business into a full time career.  It would be wise for Joe to have a business consultant on his side.

The reason most businesses fail is because the owners have too much pride to ask for help when they need it.  After I got laid off from Alltel, I did what was necessary to build my business to where I could support myself.  Even though Joe has an established clientele, he's still going to get his butt kicked a few times.  But he'll be ok as long as he makes immediate changes when needed

Exactly, We do cater do all of the above especially athletes. This may include "weekend warrior" types and civil service.

Vince, you're do incredibly clueless its mind boggling.

And you have no respect whatsoever for personal trainers who work with regular everyday people.  Your arrogant attitude towards picking and choosing only "elite athletes" is what's going to hurt you and I can assure you that it will chance.

A few months in the red should change your mind very quickly and wipe out that arrogant attitude of yours, Joe.  I'm betting that you won't be stupid enough to actually continue in your pattern of training only elite athletes but I might be wrong.  Either way, its your business, pal.

Good luck but seriously get your head out of your ass and stop thinking that you're better than everyone else.  And although you're stupid enough to use steroids, I would suggest not keeping them in your facility.  If they are found on your premises, your gym will be seized and your equipment will end up at auction.

1. Assclown, we do work with "regular" people.

2. It's not an arrogant attitude, why would I want to work with people who I wouldn't want to work with. After a while you HAVE to weed out the one's who put in no effort and make you look bad. If you disagree with that, then you're just taking money from them without looking out for your own reputation.

3. The "steriod" thing........again, you're an idiot. Why would I sacrifice my livelihood especially when I have high school and college athletes and the NCAA would be breathing down my neck?

4. I'm already opening with my existing clientele, my business philosophies have been the same for years, why would I change simply because I am moving into another facility?

Vince, you should reduce that $3000 fee you charge for "business seminars" and reduce it to $3.00 then slap the shit out that person who actually was dumb enough to pay the $3.00.

I've been nice up until now, but I see why Keith thinks the way he does.

BTW, for those of you who are wondering why I enjoy the bantering between Goodrum and myself, because in sick way I enjoy owning him day in and day out!

Congrats on the gym.  Couple of questions: will there be bible study sessions in the afternoons?  Are there going to be plasma screens with Hannaty & Glen Beck all over the place?  Will Lori be giving private PT sessions?

Thank you :)

I'm not trying to be a douche....but things don't add up with you coach.

You have posted numerous times how successful you are, and that you make shitloads of money from training clients....but you are opening a 2000 sq. ft.  gym with secondhand equipment from a high school ??

Not trying to be a dick, but i would think you would go a little more high-end than that if you are that successful .

But Good Luck...seriously.

I'm no business genius but seems to me one of the first rules of business is to keep your overhead down. If someone gave me $20,000 worth of equipment, why would I buy something new of the same equipment I already have and for 3 times as much? More high end to me would be getting a tred sled or belt squat. Also, it's about the results of my clients not necessarily the gym. Some of the best gyms in the country are relatively small. It's not about flash what so ever.
