Stiff Leg Deadlift, the Ergonomic Nightmare
« on: March 14, 2010, 09:00:35 PM »
The stiff leg deadlift is one of the most dangerous exercises in the current bodybuilding culture. It adds no additional emphasis the hamstrings or spinal erectors than a conventional full range of motion deadlift but instead puts the posterior chain in an extremely fragile and vulnerable positioning. I recommend removing stiff leg deadlifts from your bodybuilding routine altogether and replacing them with a combination of full range deadlifts, lower back hyperextensions and rack pulls.

No one cares what you think.

Hope this helps.

Just use the Total Gym.

How do you think Norris got in the required shape to knock off all those gooks over the years?

if you do stiff leg deads last in your hammy routine, you won't be using enough weight to damage your back (where pre-exhaustion is a good thing).  If you do them correctly, with a lot of weight, you still won't hurt your back unless you're an ego lifter.  bend slightly at the knees, keep back arched, and you'll be fine.

I've ripped both hamstrings doing sldl, but I continue to do them.  Nothing adds mass to the hamstrings for me like them.
