Peer Pressure or Stupidity?
« on: March 16, 2010, 03:48:40 PM »
Watching the national news and they interviewed a college girl about going to Mexico for Spring Break, amongst all the violence. She said, "yeah, Im kinda worried, but my friends, they make fun of me and tell me its no big deal..."

Yeah, no big deal that three miles from Acapulco there is killings and whatnot, and armed gunman are walking the streets...

Ugh, the ignorance, arrogant American public? Or just plain stupidity?

A college slut can't go to Mexico, get drunk and get gangbanged safely anymore?  What's the world coming to?

Living near the Mexican border some time ago, I can attest that college kids and younger really believe that they have the same American rights(laws) in a different country...They are walking targets...

Im thinking that this thinking, plus the thinking that nothing will happen to them, may be some kids undoing, and will bring the American military into Mexico or to secure the American border.

Americans need to start thinking that not every place will be safe for them or their children to go.

Except within the past 5 years the stakes have become SO much higher. I can remember going to Laredo in the early 2000's and the roads and bars near the bridge were filled with college kids from UT, Baylor, Texas A&M, UT-SA, and others partying until 4 in the morning.

That has basically been replaced with nearly all of the higher profile clubs being shut down and armored trucks with gangsters sitting in the back with AK-47's and the policia standing off to the side making no attempt to arrest them.

The Yucatan is not bad but border cities around the US pretty much suck and where most of the crime is.
