So who is next for Bones?
« on: March 22, 2010, 06:51:33 AM »
I thought Jones did well last night defeating Vera.. although you could tell he was nervous for the big fight...

so what's next?  My guess right now is Randy.

Thoughts guys?

I hope not Randy -Bones will make quick work of Couture. Bones is at an elite level NOW -maybe a handful of guys out there who can push him and that's it -he's that good. I think he mauls a Rich Franklin or Couture, Tito, Chuck - If he fought Rampage I would go out on a limb somewhat and take Bones. I think he bulks up in a few years and becomes heavyweight champion, the kid is just a phenom.

Although the UFC wouldn't do it, Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva would be interesting  (if Anderson wants to fight at 205 again)

Jon Jones  vs. Anderson Silva

            and

Junior Dos Santos  vs. Cain Velazquez

Love Jones and his skills, but let's not get carried away.  Bones wouldn't make quick work of Couture.

I'd like a Forrest/Jones...  Ortiz/jones..  see if tito can get in his head.  Although i thnik Jones is much more skilled that tito.

Jones is actually really big for a 205er.  Huge frame with lot's of muscle.  He doesn't look that thick because of how long his limbs are (84" reach!).  That size combined with his athleticism will make him a force to be reckoned with at 205.  Too bad he's training with Rashad.  That would be a great match up.  Right now I would throw him in there with Silva and if he gets past him, he should be ready for anyone in the top 5.

Gotta respectfully disagree with you coltrane -I think Bones is a bad matchup for Randy, you know styles make fights -Randy didn't exactly demolish Vera. I think Randy 5 yrs. ago would be an interesting fight, but Jones is at another level -in my opinion. His unorthodox style, striking, speed, size, athleticism and desire to win would be way too much for Randy to overcome. I think he would take his training to another level if he had the chance to fight Couture just because of who he is fighting -and he would permanently hurt Randy...."You can't win Randy, this guy is a wrecking machine, he'll kill you to death inside of three rounds"...  and he's hungry !

I think UFC will give him Thiago Silva next.  If they didn't train together, I think his next matchup would be Rashad.

I just think Randy is a good idea as that will really see where Bones is at.  Randy is a master planner when it comes to fights and would be prepared.  I'm not a huge fan of his, but think he'd give Jones a good fight.

I think Couture would be a good test. Couture would not only test his skills, but would also put his nerves/emotions to the test as well. Jones shows great potential, but you also have to realize he is still young and has not fought anyone near the top of the division yet. He has beat Bonner,Hamil and Vera. Hardly top of the foodchain. Not discrediting him whatsoever, but he needs time and experience.

I'd like to see him matched up against a solid BJJ guy.  After re-watching the fight with Vera, I realized how often he opened himself up for an arm bar.  Rogan called it out a few times, but it was often.

First off, Jones would manhandle Coture imo-- Vera beat Coture soundly in my opinion and got robbed of a victory. We just saw the hurting Jones put on Vera. He's too fast, has way too good wrestling, and has an ungodly reach. He could stuff all of Cotures takedowns and just stand up and clobber him with jabs and kicks.

Secondly, Jones is not ready for Anderson Silva. Not even close. However, 2 or 3 more wins against top flight talent and he will be ready to at least test the waters.

I am thinking Ryan Bader or Forrest Griffin.  Against Bader, it would be a guy with a somewhat similar skill set, who just wont TUF recently and KO'd his teammate Jardines. Against Griffin, it would be a solid step up against a game competitor and former champion with a big name. After beating Griffin, I think he would be ready to really step up to the big leagues. The thing is, who is left at 205? He's not ready for Lyoto or Shogun. He's not fighting Rampage and Rashad is his teammate.

Since Jackson helps train both Rashad and Bones, I don't see that matchup panning out.  It would be nice though!

After thinking it over, I think the best match up would be Tito.  Unfortunately, there's a bunch of rumors floating around that Tito is severely injured.  Hopefully not true.

GTFO--- Tito would get stepped on like the cockroach he is. His first fight in god knows how many years and he looked old, slow and poorly conditioned against Griffin. While Tito is a good wrestler, Jones is at least as good and all other things being equal, Jones would demolish him.

Forrest would be a much more compelling matchup.

I honestly dont see tito or forrest getting out of the 1st rd with this guy...But at least forrest would give it his all and not have a million excuses afterwards which cant be said for tito....

I think the absolute best match up at this point in time would be ryan bader....

I'd rather see the Bader fight.  I don't wanna watch Forrest run out of the octagon crying anymore!  I know he's an emotional guy, but why can't he congratulate the other guy and wait till he's backstage before he has a mental breakdown.

I didn't suggest Tito because I thought he could beat Jones.  I think Jones would likely maul him.  But, it would be a high-profile fight that would give Jones more experience and help increase his popularity before taking on the top 5 in the division.

I totally agree. As I said a few comments up, Bader or Forrest are the best guys to throw in the ring with Jones.

Think about it like this too-- If Bader somehow wins, he is going to have a pretty solid rep at dismantling Greg Jacksons guys and I think a win over Jones would definetly put him near the top of the 205 contenders.

That aside, it would be cool to see two legitimate, young, talented guys go at it-- especially since both are outstanding wrestlers with good striking ability.

yea...by the time it's all said and done I could see a trilogy between bader and jones they are both young and here to stay...

I don't the hype/potential with Bader.  Jones would make him his biatch.  And, I doubt he will ever crack the top 5 in the division.

Maybe not, but stylistically it's a pretty interesting fight. I don't think Jones would toss Bader around like a rag doll+ Bader has legit knock out power.

agree 100%...you can never count out a strong dude with good wrestling and KO power...granted I would give the slight edge to jones at this point but it wouldnt be much....maybe 60/40 % jones bein 60 bader 40 percent to win...

Thats why they fight anyways is it not...Theres tons of examples of one fighter beating another on paper but it doesnt always go down like that in the octagon....

I'm not sayin make this a main event but this fight would be highly anticipated by most people that know there shit...

Jones is way too explosive for Bader.
