GOP's Most CRUSHING DEFEAT Since The 1960's
« on: March 22, 2010, 08:26:23 AM »
David Frum, former speechwriter to President George W. Bush:

Conservatives and Republicans today suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.

It’s hard to exaggerate the magnitude of the disaster. Conservatives may cheer themselves that they’ll compensate for today’s expected vote with a big win in the November 2010 elections. [...]

No illusions please: This bill will not be repealed. Even if Republicans scored a 1994 style landslide in November, how many votes could we muster to re-open the “doughnut hole” and charge seniors more for prescription drugs? How many votes to re-allow insurers to rescind policies when they discover a pre-existing condition? How many votes to banish 25 year olds from their parents’ insurance coverage? And even if the votes were there – would President Obama sign such a repeal?

We followed the most radical voices in the party and the movement, and they led us to abject and irreversible defeat. [...]

So today’s defeat for free-market economics and Republican values is a huge win for the conservative entertainment industry. Their listeners and viewers will now be even more enraged, even more frustrated, even more disappointed in everybody except the responsibility-free talkers on television and radio. For them, it’s mission accomplished. For the cause they purport to represent, it’s Waterloo all right: ours.

What an ass.The reason we lost was because we nominated a liberal republican for the presidency in John McCain. The only thing saving the party is the resurgance of conservatives.Frum and people like him need to be eliminated from the republican party.

LOL.

Again, with a super majority and at one time a filibuster proof majority in the Senate, how could the Democrats not pass this crap of a health reform legislation by themselves?  Any party with such a majority has a free pass to write and put any legislation into law that they want. So how exactly is it a crushing defeat for the Republicans. The fact that most of the country supports the Republican point of view is the true victory.

But, this is only a battle. The true impact of this terrible legislation will not be felt for years to come. Republicans will not only see gains in November, they will be favored for decades from here on out as long as they maintain their conservative views and listen to the people.

Democrats have made a huge mess, which will be made evident in years to come. The initial nostalgia will give away to the grim reality of their actions and only the Democratic party will have to claim responsibility.

It would be a defeat when you have the chance to stop it. The repubs couldn't. The dems had the majority. What we have now id the biggest piece of legislation that is going to cripple the heealthcare system as we know it. This is nothing to do with party lines. We a re screwed as written in the bill.

Very true.  From a political standpoint this is a huge defeat for them.  This is a cornerstone of their whole party this was THE issue.  They failed to come up with something that would turn enough of the public against this, instead they tried to waste time, came up with nothing comprehensive to show an opposite way of doing things and really spit the dummy.

Their mistake always was not having a comprehensive bill to go toe to toe with the democrats in the court of public appeal.  I guess the gamble would be if the public liked the democrats plan more then they would have no way of stopping it, but the gamble to do nothing and try to stall really hurt them more.
Abandon every hope...

oh for crying out loud Billy, ...the Presidential election is over and has been for at least 15 months now.  ::)
Frum is referring to the HealthCare vote and the changes it will bring in. that is the loss to which Frum refers.

goodness gracious you libs are so far out of touch its not even funny...they did a great job of convincing the public the majority of america didnt want this bill, dont like this bill and dont like the way this bill is being rammed through...you dispute these statements?

I agree they should have come up with another plan that alone would have shot down the bill yesterday I believe but that doesnt excuse the dems from not listening to the american ppl...go ahead and tell us how you know whats best  ::)

Who cares about the republican party? This is a loss for anyone who is against govt. controlling routine Dr. visits. If you are into supporting a party like they're your favorite team, then have a goodtime. It's sad some look past legit healthcare (this is for you and your family) so they can win an argument against their political counterparts. It's a horrific day for me...I'm worried about the cream of the crop not becoming doctors, the best Drs. bowing out, and subsidizing the lazy and/or jokers who put beer and chicken wings before health insurance. I don't care about the republican party...unfortunately some have been brainwashed that everything needs to be a Olbermann/Hannity debate.

I have tried discussing this mess with some libs I know and I asked that if McCain Palin were pushing thid bill if they would support it?

Silence as always.
