Most powerful woman in American history??
« on: March 23, 2010, 05:51:40 AM »
 ::)

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took a muted victory lap today after the historic House vote on health care reform, but didn't dispute a description of her clout in helping win passage of the bill.

"Most powerful woman in American history?" "World News" anchor Diane Sawyer asked Pelosi today, citing an article in The Economist. Pelosi, maintaining the smiling poker player's mask that is her trademark, paused for a moment before saying brightly, "That sounds good. I don't, I don't take it personally, except I take it as a compliment for all women."

But the California Democrat rejected the description by a fellow congresswoman who said it was Pelosi who put the "steel" in President Obama's determination to keeping pushing for a sweeping reform bill rather than a scaled down measure.

"That's ridiculous," Pelosi said during the exclusive interview with Sawyer.

"Many presidents since Teddy Roosevelt have tried to pass health care reform for Americans. And many speakers of the House have tried to do it, as well," she said. "And last night, we had that level of success."

Recounting a congratulatory phone call she had with Obama Sunday night after the 219-212 vote, she said, "I told him that I was certain that it would not have happened without his vision."

Poll: Low Favorability Ratings For Pelosi, Reid

Most Americans don't have an opinion about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a new CBS News poll finds, even after more than a year of debate over the health care reform bill that put them squarely in the public eye.

Yet those who do have an opinion of the Democratic Congressional leaders don't seem to have a very good one: Pelosi and Reid are viewed unfavorably by roughly three times as many people as they are viewed favorably.

Pelosi's favorable rating in the poll stands at 11 percent. Her unfavorable rating, meanwhile, is 37 percent -- meaning that more than one in three views the California Democrat negatively.

More than half of those surveyed say they are either undecided about Pelosi or haven't heard enough to make a decision.

What Pelosi did was redistribute healthcare costs for California's illegals to the other 49 states.

Illegals would have bankrupted California even sooner without this passing, LOL!

How can people possibly confuse enlightened self-interest with compassion? I wonder what percentage of every taxpayer dollar will end up in California as a result of this legislation. :) I also wonder why no one had balls enough to call her out on it.

Its simple Kaje.  We are living in an era of the cult of personality of Obama.  Facts, logic, reason, common sense, economics, history, rationality, dont matter any more.

I trained with John and Becky from Coffee's  (http://www.coffeesgym.org) for the first and only meet I did years ago.  Becky was very impressive, but her *ahem* "friend" was even more. That lady regularly rep 405 for 8-10 on the bench without breaking a sweat.  Had the best hamstrings and calves I have ever seen on a human being too.

What happened to her buddy, Jill Mills, who was once officially deemed the "World's Strongest Woman"?

I think she is still competing in USPF meets. Her husband Milo was a really good powerlifter[800 deadlift] and he went into strongman I think.

Krista Ford was still hitting meets last I knew, but she also made the olympic bobsled team in the last olympics[I think it was the last one].Super good squatter.

Nothing wrong with that. After I blew me knee off I re-learned to bench from Kara Bohigian, who had suffered a similar injury.I started using the same leg stance as she does and she gave me a lot of advise how to overcome the injury.I will learn from anyone who is strong.

Really? Did you not put your feet as far under you as usual.

With my DL..She showed me the sumo stance and the Standard one. I got long arms so i use regular. LOL...The first time i tried...i was trying to breathe during the lift...

Yeah,I was never a big archer or a guy who tucked his legs too far under, but after I blew off my patella,my range of motion sucked,so I started benching with my legs out in front and driving back into the bench sort of onto my rear delts. My deadlift and squat used to be my best lifts but I think my bench will be my best now.Im hoping to hit 700 by Nov.I compete on April 24th so Im hoping to hit a 630 or so[obviously bombing in the squat is a possibility lol]but my bench is com ing along.
