Bullshit. What they need to do is play one more 10 minute quarter. These overpaid fucks should shut their mouths and play. Letting a kicker nail a 50 yarder is a lame way to lose in OT.
They play one 15-minute quarter in regulation and the quarter continued, until one team scored.
I remember one of my favorite games back on 2005 (Bucs v. Falcons). The Bucs won the toss but fumbled the kickoff deep in their own territory. The Falcons recovered and were in FG range. But, the FG got BLOCKED. Then the BUCS drove down the field, only to miss a FG.
That game went down to the final 20 seconds, before Matt Bryant kicked the game-winner.
Problem is OT in the playoffs is not that common, there's been 14 games in a long time that went to OT in the playoffs and the team that won the coin toss is only 7-7. It's in the regular season that there's an issue where the team that won the coin toss won close to 70% of the time.
No, it's not. I just mentioned that earlier. This past season, it was 54% of the time that the team that won the toss won the game. And, in a lot of those games, the winning team didn't score on the first possession.
What Hoge said was that, 70% of the time, OT ends in a FG.
I think this was a big mistake. Sudden death brings up the intensity of the game, especially if you're on defense. And, that's what supposedly separates the NFL from college.
Take the greatest comeback in NFL history (Bills-Oilers, '92). That went to OT. The Oilers won the toss. But, Warren Moon threw a pick. The Bills got in FG range and drilled the game-winner.
