First of all, you may know what I look like (I'm not a bodybuilder) but you don't know much about me either. I take ALL constructive criticism very seriously and am determined to learn from it every time. When I was a professional musician and someone requested a song I did not know, I made damn sure that the next time I played in that venue I knew that song. It is the same with my video work.
Having said that, I agree with you that simplicity is important in filmmaking. However, the OVERWHELMING majority of BB fans tell me that the 3 hour unedited workout videos of the past put them to sleep. I have gotten a lot of feedback about this DVD. Personal emails from all over the world. I find that those people who connect most strongly with the story of OVERKILL tend to be those who have pushed themselves to the limit, as Kai does. It was a blanket, generic statement. Although it was meant as a dig, if you've spent any time on getbig at all you shouldn't have taken it personally. Should I have taken "cheesy" personally when there was a better way to say what you meant? You get what you give in this world bro.
My DVDs are an attempt to push the genre a bit and give the audience something new. OVERKILL is an essay on bodybuilding at its highest level. I consider myself like a reporter in the field, asked to bring back my impressions of what I saw. I did that. But I also agree with you that it's not for everyone.
