Obama's Approval Rating Hits New Low
Posted by Tucker Reals

CBS News Poll analysis by the CBS News Polling Unit: Sarah Dutton, Jennifer De Pinto, Fred Backus and Anthony Salvanto.

Last week, President Obama signed historic health care reform legislation into law -- but his legislative success doesn't seem to have helped his image with the American public.

The latest CBS News Poll, conducted between March 29 and April 1, found Americans unhappier than ever with Mr. Obama's handling of health care - and still worried about the state of the economy.

President Obama's overall job approval rating has fallen to an all-time low of 44 percent, down five points from late March, just before the health bill's passage in the House of Representatives. It's down 24 points since his all-time high last April. Forty-one percent of those polled said they disapproved of the president's performance.

More results from this CBS News Poll will be released in Friday's broadcast of the Evening News with Katie Couric, which airs at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.

When it comes to health care, the President's approval rating is even lower -- and is also a new all-time low. Only 34 percent approved, while 55 percent said they disapproved.

Americans are still worried about the economy, with 84 percent telling CBS they thought it was still in bad condition. However, even that high number represents an improvement: nine in ten thought the economy was bad during the last half of 2008 and at the beginning of 2009, when Mr. Obama assumed the Presidency.

Concern about job loss remains high; slightly more Americans now (35 percent) than in February (31 percent) were "very concerned" that someone in their household would lose a job. Nearly six in ten Americans said they were at least "somewhat concerned" about a job loss.

As has often been the case, lower-income Americans tend to be the most concerned about job loss.

This concern is reflected in yet another low approval rating -- this time for the President's handling of the economy. Just 42 percent said they approved of how President Obama is handling the economy, only one point above January's all-time low. Half of the public disapproves.

so when a CBS News poll showed only 23 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Sarah Palin... that was some lib BS, a poll manufactured and bought for by the lib elites, bent on misleading the masses.

But when only 44% of Americnas have a favorable view of Obama... holy shit, let's have a ticker tape parade!  CBS is very accurate!!!!

Dang.   :-\

I actually think the healthcare numbers are pretty telling.  These numbers come after he hit the campaign trail trying to sell the new law.

Gallup has him up at 50% again.  So it's really been a WASh for healthcare.  Didn't change much on obama's approval rating.  He was 46% right before it passed, 51% a few days later, and 50% today.

I think unless something big happens to alter things (a really bad mistake or we're attacked, god forbid), Obama's numbers will sit between 45 and 52 for the next few months, just as they've been for the last 4 months.

You can use some shoddy CBS poll - but Gallup does this everyday. If he was at 44% on Gallup, THAT would be some seriously worrisome stuff for Obama.  But he's back at 50.

Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
Friday, April 02, 2010

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 31% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -10 (see trends).

The number of Democrats and Republicans in the nation both increased over the past month during the debate over health care legislation.

The new student loan plan draws positive reviews from 35% of adults nationwide while 49% don’t like it.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook.

Overall, 46% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove. To get a sense of longer-term trends, check out our month-by-month review of the President’s numbers. For the full month of March, the President’s ratings slipped a point to match the lowest levels of his time in office.

Over the past week, 55.8% of media coverage concerning the President has been positive. Rasmussen Reports is pleased to introduce a new feature letting you review trends in coverage of the President. In general, the President has receive more favorable coverage since passage of the health care bill than he did earlier in the month.

Rasmussen ???

Sorry, they cannot show data from the past 30+ years like gallup can.  And even then... Rass has Obama at 46 points... which is still INSANELY high considering the lib crap sandwich he has fed america for a year straight.

The fact that they'll admit 9 in 20 people would still fistbump obama and tell him what an awesome job he's doing...  Just, wow.  He has lost ONE IN TWENTY voters since 2008, with all the lib crap-sandwiching?  Mindboggling.

Interesting to look at the polls asking about the direction of the country.  Through mid/end of March, about 60 percent of the country believes we are headed in the wrong direction.   :-\

Presidential Tracking Polls...from RCP

President Obama ended this week about where he was at this time last week in the Gallup tracking poll.  His job approval rating stayed steady at 50%; his disapproval ticked up a point to 43%.

Rasmussen showed a slight deterioration for the President over the past week.  His strongly approve/strongly disapprove numbers were steady at 31%/41%.  But over the course of the week, his approval sank slightly from 49% approve/51% disapprove to 46% approve/53% disapprove.

The President also got some unwelcome news today from the CBS News poll.  The poll of adults – which should skew Democratic compared to the actual electorate – finds that only 44% approve of the job the President is doing.  41% disapprove.  This matches the lowest approval rating found for the President outside of the Rasmussen poll.

As we've seen before, the President's numbers below the topline are significantly worse than his actual polling numbers.  34% approve of the President's job on health care – down a point from his previous February low, while 42% approve of his handling of the economy (which is a minor improvement from January).
