The Greatest Myth ever told is that America has ALWAYS been some Free Market Bastion for all who are just simply willing to work and follow rules.
Biggest bullshit story ever, but I see many here fall for it.
The United States of Amnesia will have you believing that Americas "Free Market" Capitalistic system has always been "Free" and Open to all since the beginning of time.
The truth is, its been a big club, and most people haven`t been invited in it. That is until Liberalism and Progressiveness have at least "Freed" the Capitalistic system somewhat.
Don`t ever think for a minute that we have had a completely Free and Fair Economy. Just because you can buy a toaster does not mean you will one day own the toaster company.
Wow some of you people are really misguided and have very little free market / economic / common sense regarding business operations.
Okay i get it you are a liberal and think that capitalism is purely greed with insiders having all the wealth. Okay this is true to some degree but look throughout history, dynasties, families of power will most likely always have contacts and people in place to help them succeed to a considerable degree.
However, without the free market capitalism approach we have (granted with all its flaws and inequalities) it is still the best system for increase in wealth and living standards. It is true if you study hard or have the entrepreneurial spirit and desire to succeed (with some luck and probability in your favour) there is no better land in the world than America.
I am from the UK and you point out that you can't just run your own business - well this is completely false. My best friends are Indian and their grandparents came during WWII and worked hard every damn day. Some races have hard work ethic / smarts / and good family structure and support ala old skool white Americans who made America great. I myself created two businesses from nothing with little financing, my brother also did the same and he is not even that smart (in terms of education). The chance to succeed is there, anyone can start a business from the ground up - with a little support structure.
I know the immigrants (Indians) people were dirt poor when they arrived to the UK and through education and entrepreneurial spirit they are now dominate force and have vastly increased wealth. Many of them have started businesses of the ground from nothing, so many people who have desire and a brain can succeed. Others have used their smarts and effort to obtain good degrees and thats why you see so many Indian doctors / accountants / lawyers.
Capitalism has shown its weak points of cronyism / greed / corruption in the past few years but granted it is not a perfect system. Eventually like any structure or organism people will copy the good parts and try to avoid the bad parts and you will and should have a better system in the future. This is how systems work, Asia e.g. India and China are doing just this. They realise American system of capitalism has flaws but also has great strengths, they will mimic these good qualities and try to stem out the weak parts. America however is a mature system and its ability to really change from within without major trauma or damage will not be able to do so.
To say most of these people would have had same impact in liberal or socialist nations (or even communist nations) is absurd. You need to read history of races outside America and see what impact a free system has on the people (look to India and China and their past as prime examples).
