there's always kinda been the belief that if a nuke ever went off on US soil, we'd cook the capitals of every middle eastern nation capable of nukes about 2 seconds later.   I'm sure that still stands.

This seems (to me) to be more about making a strike on iran legal with the world.  We just agreed to not pick on everybody *except* iran, ya know?  Probably just the same posturing we've been doing for years with them.
