Yes. He will have to dominate for his country in the WC to be considered better than Zidane. Look at what Zidane did in the WC and Euro. The big stage is what makes legends. Messi has all the tools though, and he is only 22 :o, but still a bit behind Zidane imho.

I'm not taking anything away from Messi but nobody...NOBODY at 22 is the best ever.  Not Woods, Chamberlian, Tyson, Jordan, Gretsky, Sampras, etc.   He certainly has the talent but you have to be tested consistently against the best over time...and win.  You also have to be a leader and a man.  Certainly Zidane is a different type of player but to be the 'best ever' you have to be a leader on the field and that means taking the assist instead of the goal, risking the injury to save the game and it means losing on the big stage and still keeping a winning attitude.  Messi doesn't have that yet...doesn't mean he wont.  Contrast that with Ronaldo...all the skill in the world and boo'd where ever he goes because he's selfish and arrogant and out for himself...it's really a waste in my opinion.  I have more respect for Podolski as a player because of how he carries himself on the field.  Remember his goal against his home country of Poland?  Didn't celebrate out of respect.  Imagine that character with Ronaldo's skills!

Yes, Messi is unreal, but you cannot talk about best of all time without mentioning Pele. It's sacrilege. The guy has three World Cup titles and is the youngest to score a goal in international competition -16.

For the Messi haters: the guy just scorred 4 times in a top Champions League match against a top team and missed another 2 opportunities. He is rediculously good and easily the best player AT THIS MOMENT.

Messi is the best player in the world right now
Ronaldinho is still the most skilfull, amazing stuff, but far from his best
Ibra for a tall man especially has awsome 1st touch, skill, finish...
Cristiano is great, world class, exciting to watch, we havent seen his best yet, hope takes it up a notch with Portugal this time, we need his best, considering the group
Rooney has finally reached the peak of his powers, fantastic form right now
But we're lucky to live in a time when we can say and see probably the best player ever develop before our eyes, Messi. Finally , the new, improved Diego, and with Tevez, Kun Aguero, Maxi, Di Maria, Cambiasso, etc, etc, Argentina are gona win the WC they shoulve already won in 06.

Much like Ronaldo (de Lima, brazilian, phenomeno) was best player of his generation, Messi is unbelievable! And hows Barca embarrassing Arsenal without even haviing Ibra, Henry on the field... thats the luxury of a strong, strong team.

Messi will win another CL, World club cup, world cup and be crowned world player of the year in sucession! All by the age of what will then be 23!

nice game against arsenal but he only created one of those 4 goals.  he doesnt have a play marker around him on the national team.  he dont create like ronaldinho.   not only will he not see the WC in 2010 and damn sure wont see it 2014 in Brasil.  his best chance will come in 2018 at the end when his legs are gone.

2nd look at qualifiers.  he doesnt run past brasilian defenders because they are too quick.  duga goes 3-4-4 against arg.  nice dreams.
in order words he wont win a WC unless he can get citizenship in Brasil.

hahaha.  yeah...and that's what dunga is there for the beautiful game.  completely different type of team under his wing.  he brings more of a Premier League team to the table with brasilian talent in tact which doesnt give you the spacing.  argentina isnt winning anything unless ronaldinho gets citizenship this yrs so he can be a setup man for messi.  no way in hell in 2010 argentina got the squad with that drug addict calling the shots and messi's soft midget game against brasil's back line.   and you can scratch them for 2014 with home pitch for brasil.  30?  that's 8 yr from now and you really think his legs are the same in 2018.  different game and pace he plays vs a zidane.
