Aldo versus BJ Penn
« on: April 07, 2010, 07:47:32 AM »
Dana White actually mentioned that fight being possible if Aldo beats Faber. Aldo would have to move up in weight, and probably would need a few fights at 155 first, but damn that would be sweet.

Anyone think Aldo would have a shot?

I think Aldo will go down as one of the greatest MMA has ever seen....He is the new bread and in a few more years will be the best P4P....If they fought now it would be a toss up...If they fight 2 years from now Aldo by whatever he wants to win by...

I dunno man. As dominant as Aldo is, I don't think anybody on the planet can even hang with BJ Penn and give him a decent fight at 155. Plus the move up in weight might negatively impact Aldo's explosiveness. I think it would be a good fight, but no way BJ loses to him right now. I agree that down the road Aldo would have a legit shot to win.

It would be an interesting match-up...

Than being said, BJ would demolish Aldo.

BJ is too big and technical.

Maybe in like 5-7 years when BJ is on the decline, Aldo might have a chance :)

The scary thing is Aldo is 24 years young...Bj turns 32 this year and BJ has only had a couple more fights than aldo....Give him a few more years to fill out and gain more experience and watch out...

Like I said Aldo is a new breed of bad ass that will be coming along over the next 5+ years that will come in and make the guys that used to dominate look average....

If I was making odds or a percentage on if they fought this year I would make BJ a 55-60% chance of winning making Aldo a 40-45% chance....that being said 2-3 years I Would give Aldo a 90% chance of victory...I realize this is all speculative...but....I remember telling people before the first GSP hughes fight that st.Pierre was going to be the next dominate force and no one believed me as most people just ride the bandwagon of who ever is currently on top...They were all saying hughes is the best blah blah then they ate crow when hughes fell off and now there all on the GSP wagon....Point is just because BJ has been dominate don't necessarily mean it will always be that way...10 years from now the "average" fighters will all be great athletes and have skill sets like BJ,GSP, and Anderson Silva have now...And the elite fighters and champs will be far better than anything we have yet to see....Guys like aldo and Dos santos are beginning to usher in the next gen of eliet fighters...Are they good enough to be champs now?maybe maybe not...in a few more years as they gain experiance and fill out there frames it's curtains for any of the current fighters in the light weight & heavyweight div....

Without being so technical...

Most guys that are on top now, will not be in 2-3 years. Basic sports evolution. The only way they can stay on top is if they dodge top competition like Fedor  ;D

so 2 posts up^^^ you say Aldo "Might" have a chance only after BJ is on a decline 5 to 7 years from now...

Then...your very next post it's 2-3 years basic sports evolution...epic flip flop...

oh and I doubt Gay dudes have another man on the brain as much as you do Fedor....dude completely owns your mind...

You must have not seen my smiley on the first post about 5-7 years. I have to apologize for your stupidity. I was being sarcastic in pointing out how much difference in talent they have.

I used Fedor as an example of someone that can still stay 'top ranked' and avoid the evolution as I mentioned. Just proving my point. That's all.

Please, don't be so sensitive. :o

I'm very impressed with Aldo, but I'm ready to anoint him as one of the possible greatest ever.  He's not yet been in deep water.  He's not yet been truly tested.  This Faber fight will answer a lot of questions.  If it turns into a 3+ round fight, where Aldo dominates and finishes, I would like to see him at 155 in the UFC...ASAP.

BJ is better at stiking, takedowns, TD defense and BJJ.  Aldo would be smoked.  Not to mention that BJ cuts from a lean 167-175 to 155, so he is a big 155er.
