Question for someone who works at a gym?
« on: April 10, 2010, 06:04:14 AM »
I'm thinking about trying to get a part time job selling gym memberships. Is this a good job or one of those sells jobs that people do for a couple months and quit? The gym I'm thinking about working at is 24 hourfitness.  Does anyone have any experience with them?

My buddy used to do that. Sounds like it was just a typical shit job. At the same level as retail or something like that. Same kind of money too.

But if you wanna try it just go do it.

If you need/want some extra cash in a hurry, you can make a killing IF it’s a NEW gym.
I remember the last “big chain” gym to open in our area.
Those sales people made great commissions selling just the pre-grand opening memberships.

I’d say that after about 3 months of opening its doors and the big signup blitz died down, so did "new member" commissions.
There were maybe 2 or 3 original sales people left after the first year of operation.
But, most of them seemed to get in, make their money, and moved on to greener pastures.

Since you’re just looking for some part-time work, December/January and early Spring usually see a surge in new members (between New Year’s resolutions and people wanting to get in shape for summer).
Aug/Sept can also be a good time, as spoiled, stay-at-home moms are now looking to kill time being that their kids are back in school.
Maybe try to get in close to those times.
They’ll probably be looking for some extra help, and it’ll give you the best payoff for your time.

I sold memberships at a gym not so long ago. It was really horrible and I suggest you look elsewhere for employment.
