Milk, good or bad?
« on: April 12, 2010, 02:01:40 PM »
How many of you guys drink milk and eat cereal? Even when Dieting I might have a bowl of vector with a scoop of protein with skim milk once or twice a week for breakfast. Is it true that milk makes the skin thicker or is that just a myth? If it isnt a myth what exactly in the milk causes the skin to thicken?

Thank you for your time.

Nothing wrong with a bit of milk from time to time. I put half-fat milk in my oatmeal every day - can't eat it any other way.

Not sure about the skin thickening thing though - never heard about that one. My skin has always been pretty thin and i used to drink milk by the gallon when I was younger and couldn't afford protein supplements - I would say it's probably down to genetics more than anything.

When you're young, up to early twenties, I think it's OK but as you get older you should limit dairy products. But if you want to gain weight then milk, ice cream etc will do he trick.

Do you know what exactly in milk and dairy products causes the skin to become thick?

Your skin doesn't become thick. You retain water

Your skin doesn't become thick. You retain water

For those who don't, there can be a very mild reaction. That mild reaction is characterized by very faint, nearly impercetible water retention.

Studies go either way. The latest studies show more positive benefits than negative drawbacks. It was said that soy increased estrogen and decreased testosterone. It is also said that soy products help reduce the chances of prostate cancer.

People that live on predominant plant based foods have a tendency to live longer..

For every negative article on soy (by a reputable study group) there are 10 other positive studies with fantastic results. Personally, I've been using soy milk for over 5 years. No problems with test, estrogen or minimal muscle content whatsoever.

The only thing that bothers me at times is drinking it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Sometimes it causes a little stomach ache, but it ain't nothin like the lactose sharts.

Try it. I add Ovaltine to the plain soy once in awhile for the vitamins and the increased sweetness.

Let me check and see if I've grown titties....

Doesn't thicken the skin. However, unless you've got really strong nordic gene lines, you're probably going to develop mild lactose intolerance as you age. People aren't supposed to drink milk, and it's mostly those of nordic descent who developed over millennia the ability to keep naturally producing lactase enzymes.

For those who don't, there can be a very mild reaction. That mild reaction is characterized by very faint, nearly impercetible water retention. Problem is when you're on stage or at single digit BF, even mild water retention can fck things up for you. That's why most guys avoid milk a few weeks out from a show.

That, and there's a few extra carbs, and if you're cutting those out, milk is a good place to start. 12g of CHO for every 8 g of PRO.

Other than that, it's fine to take.

This explains it all right here.

The added hormones, they give to cows, are bad. I read people that stop dairy later in life live longer healthier lives.
If you're scaried of soy, try almond milk. Taste ok, not as good as real cow juice tho.

Not bad per se, but it does contain phytoestrogens which can raise estrogen in males leading to a host of sides, including gyno, water retention and mood swings.

American milk, for the most part, contains Bovine Somatotropin.
