I'm not sure what the Middle Eastern custom is, but bowing is a common Asian custom. I do it all the time.

I agree it should be mutual, but even if it isn't, this isn't something I'd get worked up over.

The clip does make him look pretty bad, but it's hard to tell what happened during the course of the handshake (before/after). At least one is misleading (showing Governor Lingle) because she does bow to Asian dignitaries/leaders.

Also, his bow sucks. You don't have to bend over at the waist.

Either the president can't bow, or he can. I say he can. I say most people commonly give others a cordial head nod in formal situations, in everyday life. You have a 6 foot 2 Obama meeting a 5 foot nothing president, and he engages in this disarming move.
