A contract ending is not quitting.  It simply means both parties no longer have any obligation to each other and the duties of both have been fulfilled or resolved.

Technically, he did quit. He "departed" and/or "discontinued" from the company.  Doesn't matter how. In the end, he left.

On the other hand, most people wouldn't consider that "quitting."

I can say that because there is much more than just competing, and I have been fortunate to have had  (and made) opportunities that bring value to companies...there are new generation athletes that can carry the flag on the competition stage. What I do is mostly behind the scenes.
