the amount of days it took to reach "tax day" is 99 this year.

I was surprised to hear that is the fewest number of days in over 20 years.

it was actually over 100 days for Bush.  Weird, I didn't see the protests then.  Any ideas why, and did you know this?

I hate taxes also, and hate the Obama economic plan, an I hated the Bush plan too.  Way too much taxing and wasteful spending on both of their parts.  This isn't an attack on bush.  I was surprised Obama was actually better than Obama in terms of # of days.

Still, I expected more than an eye roll on this one - I thought you'd give me a compelling argument or point so I'd say "ahhhh, you're right!".  I post counter arguments to you 33 cause you often deliver these points.

Tax day is 99 days this year.  Fewest # of days in decades.  Why didn't Palin protest for the last 20 years about tax day?

Did it ever dawn on you that we are running 1.6 Trillion in deficit spending alone and that the taxpayer is actually not even coming close to covering the cost of govt with this wild spending?

agreed 100%.

My own thinking was that it's something like 98 days for a hundred americans and 150 days for one american - Obama has jacked up the taxes on the rich significantly, right?

So while the overall average number of tax days is down to 99, the amount is still higher than ever?  Make sense?  that was my theory on it.

Ooh, good point.

Now does Obama control the states and tell them how to tax?  I thought the whole 'states rights' thing meant that many people preferred the states manage things instead of the federal govt.

Is the case that Obama has cut taxes federally, and lib lawmakers have raised them in the states?  If so, why are people yelling about Obama after his taxes (99 days to reach) are lower than Dubya?

First of all the reason it took less days to pay taxes was because of the tax rebate Obama gave.Tax rates have not decreased a dime under Obama as he promised they would for 95% of Americans.Second of all,my wife and I made a combined 10,000 dollars less under Obama then Bush.Overtime was gone,no increse this year in money,so his one time tax rebate was a pile of crap compared to what hes done to destroy the economy and in terms of what hes done to personal finances.THATS why there was no protest.Under Bush we made 10,000 more a year under Obama 10,000 less and its because companies dont know what this fool is going to do next.

Tax rates have not decreased a dime under Obama. The Bush rates are still in effect for now.He gave a one time tax rebate of 1300 dollars I think thats the reason it took less days to pay off our tax debt to the government. He hasnt dropped one tax rate while he has been in office.

So for the average american, whose taxes have remained the same but he has gotten a check for $1300...

That means the average american has $1300 more in his pocket, under Obama?

(Again, I'm not flaming, I'm looking for a clear explanation and I appreciate you breaking it down)

Yes,but Obama did it in a way that really was of very little benefit. He paid it out in incriments of 13-17 dollars a week, which is nice, but doesnt actually stimulate you into buying big ticket items.I would have much prefered a check for 1300 dollars so I could buy a good item or pay  off a credit card or whatever.

So we did have more money in our pockets but it came out to about 15 a week, which buys you a quarter tank of gas.Keep this in mind though, his plans have only just begun. We still have the Bush tax cuts he wil let many of them expire.Health care still hasnt begun in earnest, the coming VAT tax. Also,I think the tea party people think exploding the budget for a failed stimulus package is the reason to protest.

Why would we be so happy about it 333?  We had one of the largest tax cuts in American history, so it would make it rather a silly point to say those who love taxation are happy right now.  Wouldn't it make more sense to tell the truth.  The truth being tax cuts for 98% of families.  That's gonna hurt the ol' tax love affair isn't it?  When Citizens for Tax Justice agree with something you know it must be good right?

In time for tax day, Citizen for Tax Justice releases a new fact sheet  [pdf] on your federal tax bill for 2009. It's good news, for 98% of working families.

According to a recent CBS News/New York Times poll, the vast majority of Americans do not perceive that they have received a tax cut from President Obama. Asked if the President “has already raised taxes this past year,” 53 percent of those polled said that the President has “kept taxes the same,” and 24 percent think that the President has “raised taxes.” A mere 12 percent believe that the President has cut their taxes.

This is an astonishing level of misunderstanding. The truth is that the major tax cuts enacted in the 2009 economic stimulus bill actually reduced federal income taxes for tax year 2009 for 98 percent of all working families and individuals. These tax cuts saved working families and individuals an average of $1,158 on the tax returns they will file by April 15. (The median tax cut was approximately $600.) [emphasis in original]

An astonishing level of people believe any lie the Republican party tells them. A sizable chunk of them probably still believe that Saddam Hussein was responsible for the 9/11 attacks. Turning around the "tax and spend" stereotype for Democrats is going to take a long time to dislodge. Even more important to dislodge will be the persistent idea that taxes somehow aren't critical to the functioning of government, of society.

At any rate, if you've been procrastinating on completing that return, get to it. You might very well have a better outcome than you've been expecting.

My building got a 20k tax increase last year.

We got a new MTA payroll tax.

We got double DMV tax.

Cry me a river with your liberal garbage.

No american should ever have to pay more than 10% of their income to govt. to fund the parasites, leeches, govt, non-workers' salaries, etc.

So you agree this is one of the largest tax cuts in history?  The 282 billion is in fact the largest single tax cut in history, more than 2001-02 Bush cuts, 2004-05 Bush cuts and Regan and Kennedy tax cuts.

Haha there you go again claiming to know so much more about economics than actual economists, please 333 i would love to read an in-depth analysis, written by you of course, that explains why and how the tax cut was not in fact a tax cut with sources and references all cited.  Being that you are such an economics wunderkind this will be a breeze.  I will patiently wait for your reply.

The reason it has not done SQUAT and the reason why UE is still horrific, foreclosures are still skyrocketing is that state and local tax increases are wiping out any alleged tax cuts on the fed level.  Whare someone does not pay it on one levels, they get raped on the other level.

At the end of the day, people are left with NET less money to pay their bills due to the greedy disgusting govt.

So you want Obama and the central government to control state and city taxes too?  FFS what is it?  Big government controlling everything or government being split up on different levels like city, state and federal?
