I had the HTC HD2 for a while and also have a Blackberry Bold. Nice phones but this one is better. The HTC Desire is being released in Australia soon but I picked one up from Telstra. Great little phone. 5 Mp camera with geotagging. Applications are fast and slick. You can customize your phone with gadgets like the clock and special shortcuts. It locates where you are and puts that under the clock. You can also have the weather showing up on the home page. I have Google mail and it is handled fast with this phone. You can also do internet searches with Google at the press of a button. The phone is a touch phone similar to the iPhone but I like this phone better. You have to buy a case and upgrade the 2Gb memory card.

On my phone you can see a custom wallpaper with flashing colour bars. You can touch the screen and it sets off a pulse of colours in 4 directions. Gimmicky but fun. If you click the Footprints shortcut the camera turns on and you can get a GPS location after the photo. With 5 Mp it is far better than the iPhone camera. You can also change some of the camera settings such as brightness and colour balance. If you touch the Mail tag you get your Gmail instantly. You can set it up so you get your Yahoo and Hotmail in the same account. If you import your yahoo and hotmail accounts you then have all the contacts when you click the People shortcut. You can put other shortcuts there and elsewhere on the home page. The weather is neat. It senses what the weather is like and you see it on the homepage if you leave it at the default setting. This is a fairly user friendly phone compared to my Blackberry.

Lost it! Left it on the roof of my ute waiting for a GPS tag for a photo and drove off. Brain not as good as it used to be! I wasn't happy, I can tell you! HD2 has a bigger screen but the applications and set up are way better on the Desire. This is one neat phone.

I live in Canada so we get fucked out of a lot of new phones. Just got the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It's such a relief after using a fucking iPhone for so long. Even when it's jailbroken there are still a lot of limitations. Fuck Apple. The iPhone kept me entertained for a while but all the restrictions and restraints... never buying another Apple product.

It won't be.

The Sprint Evo 4G is gonna kick the shit outta both the current, and next generation I-phone.

Copy & pate is easier than typing it myself. let me break it down for you, Sprint's 4g (WiMax) is pure shit. HTH

The two largest U.S. carriers, Verizon Wireless (VZ, Fortune 500) and AT&T (T, Fortune 500), have both announced plans to unveil 4G networks in the next two years based on a new technology called Long Term Evolution (LTE). Verizon said it would launch its network in 25 to 30 markets this year, reaching 100 million people. AT&T plans on deploying its network in 2011.

The No. 3 wireless carrier, Sprint Nextel (S, Fortune 500), claims to have a 4G network in place based on a different technology called WiMAX, though WiMAX is actually just an enhanced 3G technology. With more than 50 global carriers pledging to unveil LTE networks, some analysts have speculated that Sprint will likely commit to building its own LTE network in the near future.

You're an idiot.  WiMax isn't pure shit at all.  It's significantly faster than 3G, and it's build out is very very good so far.  In my metro area (st louis) which is in the process of being built out and "turned on" right now, not only is the metro area covered, but 50-70 miles in each direction.  It's going to be terrific here in a few weeks/months when it is done.

Sprint acknowedges that LTE is the better standard, and they will be switching to that with ease in upcoming years.  The current WiMax 4G is the stop gap measure for them that will stop the hemorraging of customers along with the superior line of android phones they now have coming out.

Verizons, AT&T's, (and then sprints) LTE networks won't be ready til mid 2011 at the earliest, and won't have significant build out until 2012 in reality.  So I have no problems with spending a measely $199 for a 2 -year contact for the Evo 4G, and getting a phone with the best specs on the market (by far) and 4G Wimax to boot.  Even if/when it just runs in 3G mode, it will be an unbelievable handset and better than everything else on the market.   This is indisputable fact.  Industry best hardware, on Android 2.1, on a 3G/4G network.  Win.  And when LTE is ready, I"ll jump to that, and switch to an even better phone that will be out  by then.

Oh, and just for reference:

"Within the marketplace, WiMAX's main competition comes from existing, widely deployed wireless systems such as UMTS, CDMA2000, existing Wi-Fi and mesh networking.

In the future, competition will be from the evolution of the major cellular standards to so-called 4G, high-bandwidth, low-latency, all-IP networks with voice services built on top. The worldwide move to 4G for GSM/UMTS and AMPS/TIA (including CDMA2000) is the 3GPP Long Term Evolution effort. However, it has been noted that the likely performance difference between WiMAX as it stands today and LTE when it is eventually commercially available in 2–3 years time, will be negligible.

LTE is expected to be ratified at the end of 2010, with commercial implementations becoming viable within the next two years."

only downside of android is no xvid, divx support.

if they get this sorted through some software solution/app i.e. vlc4droid or something like it  8)

It's just Verizon's WAY overhyped network.  (it ain't all that)

Wait about 3-4 more weeks and get an Evo 4G on Sprint when it comes out, and you'll be a happy camper.

is there a set date for the EVO to come out?  HTC's been spotty on build quality, the nexus one was kinda hit or miss and the incredible has had lots of issues as well early on.
