Personally I think organic is a waste of money but feel people are free to spend their pown money on what they want if they want to pay more for organic that's their choice and should not be criticized for it.
Agreed.

However,

They SHOULD be criticized for spreading myths.

boom!!!!  Hard to argue against that and believe in a freemarket....  In fact the pro-conventional crowd get the better end of the deal.  We will still be subject to pesticides even if we don't want to be.  The best the organic crowd can hope for is to limit their intake of pesticides.  But many studies show that we can't avoid them...  Wildlife has it even worse, no choice for them, they're going get plenty of it.  Especially river and wetland habitat.  Some rivers get quite the serious dose after all the city and farming runoff.  Plenty of studies on that too.  Anyway, clearly the pro-pesticide people have the better deal right now.  It's kinda like a guy that doesn't want to smoke walking into a bar to get a drink.  He ends up smoking like it or not.  So they get the better end of the deal right now and yet TA still bitches lol....

TA, are you going to commit to a simple video or not?  If you want I'll pay you 50 bucks for your time to make the video.  This is good money considering these are things that you have stated you will be doing anyway.  So nobody is asking you to do anyting you wouldn't already be doing.  You can just collect 50 bucks for filming it and uploading it to youtube and posting it here.  easy as shit.

why bother trying to limit the use if there's no harm in pesticide use?

How could a person grow 30 different types of tomato in a single garden when each strain has different requirements? Some require higher acidity or alkalinity, some need more watering some need less, they all need different pruning methods and the list goes on for getting the most of what your planting.

There is a huge difference in a well planted home garden and the stuff you buy in the store, in terms of taste and quality, the mere fact that most tomato's are spending half their time ripening while they are still on the truck is proof enough isn't it? If the pesticide is non systemic then it should just be a matter of rinsing the pesticide off but if it's something that breaches the stem or skin I wouldn't take a chance eating it.

Organic is actually CHEAPER than the chemically produced crops. A person initially has to understand how to organically farm meaning crop rotation, natural herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, natural fertilizers from manure, Guano, Chicken droppings, etc, helper crops, planting and harvesting times etc etc. What this chemical farming has done is changed farming to a mechanized, chemicalized act. Plants are forced to grow faster, bigger, more abundant in the short term sacrificing the soil in the long term. All in the name of PROFITS.

The real issue however is not just taste in foods...it is the SAFETY of knowing you are not ingesting all of these dangerous toxic products big agriculture uses to force crops to grow in a soil depleted of nutrients, ferttilizer and top soil

Some home gardeners grow hundreds of different varieties at a time.  Its really not that difficult.  30 is not many at all especially if you implement containers.

I have had crappy tomatoes from the Garden, crappy from the Farmers Market and Crappy from the Supermarket and have had great ones from all 3 as well.

One does not taste better than the other, especially given that all varieties show up in all places.  It is mostly dependent upon what type of tomato.  There is no such thing as "supermarket" tomato etc...

I prefer Black Krim, Abraham Lincoln and Brandywine from the Garden, Supermarket or Farmers Market.

Oh dear god, now TA is claiming some home gardens grow "hundreds" of tomato varieties ::)  I would be shocked if you could find one in all of America with hundreds and if you do they're probably a small time seed supplier.

and actually you can't even find a seed supplier with hundreds of varieties!!!!!!!

TA is the master chef, climatologist, philosopher, physicist, chemist, etc.

I think if he wanted to grow a garden with hundreds of varieties of the same vegetable in the same garden he could do it easily.

Tons of members on this forum that grow hundreds, even thousands of varieties at a time.  Spend some time there, you might learn something.

you have 3 or 4 varieties pictured there, what the fuck is that supposed to prove jackass?

Are you going to take me up on my offer or what?  If so let's arrange it.  50 bucks for what you claim you would already be doing anyway.  I know you already have a camcorder of some kind, you've posted longer videos here already.  So school us in the use of pesticides on your garden.  Like I said it's the beggining of the growing season so we have plenty of time.  I would offer more, but since it's something you are already claiming to do, why, it's 50 bucks for doing nothing but taking a vid of it.

Hey, what's your address, let us check out this epic garden on google earth?  I'll tell you what, you pm it to me, I will not let anyone else know your address, you have my word and I am good for my word.  I've never let anyone down here on pm messages.  I keep secrets.  give me your address and I'll post the google image of your epic garden.  Assuming 2009 images are available for your area.

If you actually read that forum, you will find people with thousands of varieties at a time using not that much land at all.

Most do at least hundred or so different varieties in their yard.

30 is nothing.
