Serious question ... How does one react during a panic attack? What are the common symptoms? What causes it? What stops it (non drug)? Etc......

Never had a PA but have received numerous calls for help from an alcoholic friend who has them often when he is not drinking. He states that they are serious enough to be suicidal.

When I show up I drag him out of wherever he is and make him walk/run until it passes. Is that one of the temp cures?

Thanks .....

Smart move.  I suffered PAs for years.  Whats happening on a biological level during the crisis is a fight/flight response that over adrenalizes the body.  Helping your friend work out that chemical through walking will help them overcome the acute phase.  There is a mental portion that needs to be addressed for long term relief plus a serious look at the current diet.  It took a change of lifestyle for me tht inlcuded regular weight training, diet and letting go of some mental demons.  Ironically, the only real remaining issue from that time is terrible claustrophobia.  Never had it as a child.  That's life.

Chaos,  Che, I gotta say that I PARTIALLY agree with youz guys. But I've also met lots of people who would go out of their way to help another human being in a heartbeat.

And then I've also seen or read about others who definitely fit your description.

Doom! Thanks for that PA  information. My PA friend was a single dad with two 8 to 10 year old kids (troublemakers) plus he was an alcoholic and smoked continually. I sort of took some responsibility for overseeing his kids and that gradually led to more responsibilities which I didn't anticipate and was not trained to accept .... so I ended up going to AA with him and trying to work with his anxiety and PA problems.

AA was a kick in the ass because I'm not a serious drinker (two beers and I fall asleep) and I used to take him to the AA meetings in Hollywood and met many of the major Hollywood movie stars during those meetings. Probably the only place where they can be regular Joes without being bothered for autographs.

He was in and out of AA for most of his life and was frequently found outside of the Circle Bar in Venice with his face down in the gutter.

A very interesting story which is more than likely inappropriate for this space, so I'll just end it by saying "Thanks" for the response about PA.

Sorry, Dis!

Sadly absolutefy noone in the so called "scientific community" has any fucking clue about panic attacks. Zero. They will babble for days without saying anything.

Listen to this BS that explains nothing basically

" According to the American Psychological Association, the symptoms of a panic attack commonly last approximately thirty minutes. However, panic attacks can be as short as 15 seconds, while sometimes panic attacks may form a cyclic series of episodes, lasting for an extended period, sometimes hours. Often those afflicted will experience significant anticipatory anxiety and limited symptom attacks in between attacks, in situations where attacks have previously occurred. "

However, I do know. Cause I am a "missunderstood genius"  :D

Panic attacks are past life trauma stored and carryed in your DNA or "cellular memory". Sometimes, something you see, hear or experience can trigger those DNA sequences to open and the traumatic memories and all emotional trauma associated with those experiences come in bulk to the surface in the conscious mind. And you a experience seriously overwhelming feelings all of a sudden.

It is a way to "release the past" although not pleasant AT ALL for those who been through it.
