what do you do in a situation like that, hold your head? take a deep breath? water weight is heavy, does it knock you out?

My friend Dan Moore in Hawaii in 2005 won the biggest ride of the year award in Hawaii.  I think it was 68' wave so he got $68,000.00.  He helped pioneer tow-in surfing.  Pellius do you know Dan.  he is out your way.  He bought my Jeep when I moved to LA

I've seen some mighty big waves on the N. Shore but never had the opportunity to see a wave the size of that one in that first video. How big was that wave?

One of the big ones came through out living room once and across the highway into the cow pasture leaving fish flopping all over the highway.

I recall the N.Shore surfers (we bandaged them up most of the time) saying that the big ones hit when the moon is full and the wind is from the north and a storm is happening up around the Alutians. They watch that sort of shit and get their boards ready for its arrival.

A friend by the name of Buzzy Trent lived on his board and was always ready for the big ones. One day he was taking a shit beyond the break line and a big one came in and he dropped his trunks and rode it in as nude as a jaybird. A photographer took a picture of that monsterous wave with Buzzy in full control and made a very large and very successful selloing poster out of it. Needless to say, they did a lot of air-brushing first.

A while back there were a number of big wave riders in Hawaii who were under contract to hit the surf whenever the big ones hit the islands. I think some major TV network wrote the contracts and I do recall that the pay was definitely worth the effort and the wait.

They still doing that today, Only?

Is surfing hard to begin?  I will be on Bali for a year, so its a must try for me... but i don't have any experience. Is it enjoyable rather quickly, or takes months to even be able to stand on the board?

Teahupoo is the gnarliest wave on the planet, tons of water moving very fast. It would kill me no doubt. Actually I wouldnt even try it, but im used to Fl mush

I'm an Outrigger not a surfer but nothing beats riding awesome waves.

I did a session last year where the wind picked up to about 35 knots while i was going into it and then turned around and rode it home. I've had bigger waves but the wind strength made it unreal.

Ah cool, seems fun. im not gonna lie though, the guyd out in the lineup cant stand the canoers and the paddleboarders. mostly bc they can catch waves waayy further out which means less waves for surfers. but F it, no one owns the goddamn ocean. i cant stand surfer localism, worst on the planet is the north shore
