Ten of thousands of people rioting in the street, many equipped with their own gas masks.
thousands trying to break into the Greek parliament buildings. over 700,000 greeks work in the public sector. That's 1 in 4 people and they are obviously NOT happy. Greek riot police have their hands full in this 2^nd day of public sector strikes and civil unrest.

At least three people have been killed in the Greek capital as protesters set fire to a bank during a general strike over planned austerity measures.

The fire brigade said three bodies were found inside the bank building in Athens.

Petrol bombs thrown at police who responded with pepper spray, tear gas and stun grenades.

The current state of things wasn't even close to being sustainable. But now you have the entire nation hooked on the welfare heroine so bringing things to a sustainable state will be close to impossible. In my opinion these riots will lead to bigger events.  But Greece bit the poison Euro/ECB pill and they are about to bite another one with the "bailout" package that will put their very nuts on the table. Spain and Portugal and Italy all see these events and they know they are next.

It would be a laugher if they told Germany, France and the rest of the EU to go get fucked and then promptly default and switch back to their old currency.

I would hardly equate socialism to a ponzi scheme. If anything, the way things are done in North America is closer to the ponzi scheme model.

What's going on in Greece, is what has routinely gone on in 3rd world countries. The IMF 9cabal of private bankers) dictates that a country is to spend no money towards improving national infrastructure or in educating it's children (their future) etc., resulting in the permanent downgrading of that country. These egregious dictates fly under the radar in many developing countries because they have very little if any frastructure to begin with, and vast swaths of the population are illiterate & uneducated, ...however Greece is a 1st world country, and taking away from their society's infrastructure will be felt & protested. "Austerity measures" wtf do you think that is? If the IMF decreed tomorrow that in order for the US to get loans, they would have to stop providing fire, police & ambulance services and cease public education beyong the 3rd grade... Americans from coast to coast would grab their guns & pitchforks to storm every capitol building in the US. They would rip apart banks brick by brick. And there wouldn't be a Brooks Bros or Armani suit left on Wall Street.

National strikes, factories shut down, all flights cancelled, massive protests, civil unrest, banks set on fire... attempts to seize parliament buildings. many protestors came ready for riot police, many even bringing their own gas masks for the anticipated tear gas. Hundreds of thousands of protestors and they are not at all happy campers right now.

Greece is bankrupt because it put itself into massive debt which was created through wasteful and outrageous government spending. Greece did zero investment in the private sector and instead gave the whole country jobs for life through the government where everyone gets 2 months a year paid vacation, pensions that comprise almost 90% of their salary etc.

Greece is the perfect example of why socialism is a catastrophe waiting to happen. Blaming the IMF is a weak argument that is shared by people with equally weak minds. Now these braindead slobs are rioting and burning their own capital to the ground because the Nanny state can't afford to subsidize their vacation days and astronomical pensions. Boo hoo hoo. They have nobody to blame but themselves.

These rioters are really big and tough people, firebombing a regular bank and killing three of the employees inside. Probably tellers and other peons in the "banking" world. Crowd should have been cut down on the spot.

This is a shame. People will die and are dying. But, this is an acute version of what we are facing. Greater gov't control, less and less employment. Restricted lifestyles. Lesser freedoms, Forced on polices. Sounds like Greece, but it is America as we know it today.
