With a continuous tradition reaching back to 1750, we are the oldest-established handmade bespoke boot and shoemakers in London and still make boots and shoes on-site at 83 Jermyn Street.
Great skill and craftsmanship are required to make the finest bespoke boots and few are now equipped to undertake the task. Our makers have decades of experience, ensuring that the quality, style and fit of our product are in the highest echelons of this trade.
We also repair and refurbish boots, shoes and other high quality leather goods.
Our sister company W.S. Foster & Son have a strong following for ready-to-wear English shoes, briefcases, luggage etc. and also offer a bespoke leather goods service.
Henry Maxwell was founded in 1750 and is the oldest of the remaining bootmakers in London. Originally a famous spur-maker (you can see Maxwell's spur collection at 83 Jermyn Street), Maxwell thrived on the ubiquitous use of the horse for battle, ceremony, hunting, sport and personal transport, and ultimatly supplied boots for cavalry regiments, hunting, polo etc. By the mid 19th century the firm was prospering internationally and was awarded the first of its many Royal Warrants by King George IV.
