even if nasser didnt compete wasn't ray clearly better than yates on that day??.. even in the bdb pose ray looked sharper and more complete!!..

where is the symmetry (with its 2 meanings) on yates??!!.. where is the proportion between his different parts??!!.. even his size on that day was not distributed "equally" over his different muscles groups!!.. he had a back of a 300 pounds bodybuilder and a right arm of a 200 pounds one with a 15 inch totally deformed left arm and a big belly of a powerlifter!!.. his chest and shoulders were clearly smaller than many guys who where lighter than him!!.. as for his lower body he had the best calves on stage but his quads were worse than at least 5 others on the same stage!!..

generations are always favorable. 4-5lbs, born around the yr of phil heath and ray kills the current pros if the shows are called right.

his 87 packet is still better than any LHW today in the amateurs...including that peter guy who got a pro card by mistake.

How Ray never got a Sandow is beyond me. This sort of thing is why I think bodybuilding is predetermined.

Yates was so popular and it was like no one else was ready to take over. Then in 98 it was like they needed a 'from out of nowhere' winner to build up that wasn't one of the main players that everyone was sick of already.

love is blind so ND doesnt see yates weak points the same way others do!!.. for example for him yates TOTALLY deformed left arm only affected his front double biceps pose!!.. he doesnt see that it destroyed the balance and the symmetry of his upper body in many poses..

it's enough that mr. olympia who was supposed to be the best bb on the planet on that day was avoiding a lot of poses in his routine just to not expose his injuries!!..

That's kind of the point to your posing routine. You have the mandatory poses, which are mandatory for a reason- they usually show any flaw and/or imperfection in your physique. Yates' arms were not as good as others in those poses, but a smart BBer knows during his own posing routine, that he is supposed to hide those flaws, which is what Yates did. Unlike your hero Nasser doing a rear lat spread during his individual posing routine and showing his lack of a back...

Or pumping his biceps with oil and claiming them to be his own...at least Dorian never resorted to that for his left arm!

I can't seem to find the one shot I know that's been posted on this site before..and it's too late I have to get off to bed. Early rising time tomorrow. Oh well....

He clearly wasn’t at his best, but it was good enough for me to put him at the top.

Nassir looked great that year but wasn’t at his best too.

Yates is the greatest bodybuilder that ever walked onto an Olympia stage and would come out on top if the best 15 bodybuilders (by various contest results) ever are thrown together at their respective peaks ......... however, I think he 'may' have been a little fortunate in '97 with that win. He was one of the best competitors on that stage, but the result could have gone another way just as easily.

I was in the audience and had the final 3 like this .... 1) Yates ... 2) Ray .... 3) That fat google-eyed balding sand monkey Nasser something

Saying that, had Yates lost it, I could've understood why. For any other year, fuck right off. Talk to me had you been there in the audience.

Apart from his height Ray was close to perfection.

Just from looking at the pics I'd have Ray first but I'm not an IFBB judge and I don't judge a physique the way they do.

If someone asked me who I would rather look like I'd still have to go with Yates - honestly who would want to be 5'6" , no matter how symmetric and proportionate.. ?
