Ferrigno and Columbu proved their strength in the strongman. Somewhere I read that Ferrigno's deadlift was 900.  :o Don't know if that's a real stat.

Years ago someone tracked these numbers down for Columbu in a few European competitions-

 Powerlifting:

 Bench Press 520 lbs.
 Squat 655 lbs.
 Deadlift 750 lbs.

Weightlifting:

Olympic Press 325 lbs.
Snatch 270 lbs.
Clean and Jerk 400 lbs.

In the 70's, you have lots of competition-

Chuck Sipes was crazy strong. A fellow named Bill Seno was an absolute beast in Bodybuilding and Powerlifting, winning major contests in both. Also a very good OL'er. He was still around in the early 70's.

Yeah Cormier in the '90's was the man.

i remember i read in an old flex magazine that during the GP tour in 96 dillet, levrone, taylor, cormier, and others were discussing who was lifting more and all agreed that cormier was the strongest pro. in these days!!.. then flex magazine wrote in the same article about the tour something like ".. nasser the serious minded guy excused them and left to his room when he found the conversation turned to be about weights!!).. ;D

Wrong on all except Coleman.

Yates wasn't as strong as Cormier, nor was Mentzer as strong as Columbu.

The 1980's is a hard one to pick though.

If you count guys who competed across two decades (late 80's early 90's) then Eddie Robinson was one of, if not the, strongest BBer in the 80's.

Wrong on Coleman?! 500lbs flat bench x 10, 800 squat x 2, 500 bent rows, etc. Who's stronger?

Eddie Robinson jumped into my mind but i wasn't sure which he fitted in to.

70's- Franco

00's - Coleman, i guess you could put him for the 90's too.

You read it wrong - I said wrong on everyone except Coleman.

Coleman was easily the strongest of the year 2000 onwards.

Cormier was no doubt strong, but watching those Battle for the Olympia segments he did half reps and couldn't even handle the 200's that Ronnie pressed with ease. Strong yes, but I'd put Levrone ahead of him.

Coleman was lifting the heaviest weights by the mid to late 90's. Greg Kovaks was in the early nineties. Mike Francois was deadlifting some killer weights. Yates was the biggest on stage but not the strongest.

Honestly I do not believe a 900 deadlift of Lou, no offense
