Randy on his possible fight with Toney...
« on: May 10, 2010, 02:09:30 PM »

I'm a little concerned for this one.  Randy is definitely past his prime.  If he makes one mistake on this fight, he'll get KTFO.  And, that will get all of the anti-MMA boxing dipshits up in a frenzy.  They should have put Toney in there with someone that's closer to their prime and not susceptible to a KO...

Spin:

I agree.  Toney is gonna be like none other (i'm guessing) in terms of his striking ability in that ring.  If he learns to stuff a takedown, Randy will be in WAY over his head in there.  Even in the clinch with some dirty boxing Toney will be sneaking in powerful uppercuts.

Randy will be looking to clinch, following by what NEEDS to be a quick takedown.

I personally think Randy was unwise to take this fight not having seen anything regarding Toney's mma ability first.

Toney v Kimbo woulda been smarter imo.

Well, Toney would have demolished Kimbo, and that would not have faired well for MMA.  Toney said he wanted Brock or anyone else.  Big Nog might have been a good choice.  The guy can take punishment and he would have undoubtedly submitted him.  Or, a guy like Velasquez who could use his wrestling to take his ass down and G&P the shit out of him.

Oh, well.  Randy better be ready for this.

I think you guys are giving Toney wayyyyyy too much credit and respect. I honestly don't see him making it out of the first round against Coture. Coture always fights a smart fight. He is not going to stand and trade with Toney. He will take him down and either submit him or GnP the shit out of him.

If you think a lifelong boxer with zero experience grappling is going to develop take down and submission defenses that are legitimate enough to prevent Randy Coture from abusing him in less than 6 months, you guys are crazy.

Agree.   But it all hinges on the takedown and it's speed.  It there is a clinch and some dirty boxing, Couture is KO'd.  I guarantee that.  Coutore will need to shoot for a single or double and hope Toney has no takedown defense.

Another thing people do not realize is that boxing in MMA is MUCH different. The stance and the range differences are huge.

Toney doesn't stand a chance. Even if they were to stand and trade, IMO Couture still has the advantage.

Toney also can't just go clinch up to protect himself like they do in regular boxing. Couture will get him there as well.

More than anything, I hope that Couture leg kicks Toney until he can barely stand before he finishes him. I want to see Toney suffer, a lot!

He deserves the biggest ass whooping of his life for trying to disrespect the sport of MMA and earn an easy payday.

Do you realize that I am referring to MMA boxing. Many factors in MMA style boxing are different. Boxing while watching for takedowns, kicks, elbows, getting stuck in the clinch is much different then regular boxing. All things Randy is good at.

You need me to explain more?

You can't learn MMA in a couple of months, especially with no wrestling or BJJ backround.

Everyone is giving Toney way to much credit because he USED to be able to throw a punch.

You don't need to explain anything.   I get what you're saying.. but there is no way i buy that Randy has better standup, whether it's "mma standup" or not than James Toney.

If I were Randy, I would stay away from the cinch game.  Instead I would stay on the outside and kick the shit out of his legs, occasionally switching to head kicks.  That alone could end the fight.  If it doesn't, it will help set up the take down.

Leg kicks for sure.  Chop him down.

Key objective is obviously get it to the ground.

Most importantly, Couture needs to make sure to make Toney suffer. I hate to see fights end when someone can't stand up due to leg kicks, but this is definitely a fight that I would love to see this happen in.

I don't really dislike him....I just think he needs to be taught a lesson for thinking he can compete in a sport like MMA. It is disrespectful to the guys that train hard and have put in the time. I would feel differently if he had BJJ training or a wrestling background.
Plus it is blatantly obvious he wants a payday. Might as well make him earn it :)

toney is the last boxer to clinch his head movement is better than tysons was and his power of more than enough to knock someone out, randy cant clinch her or single underhook against the cage like he likes too, this will either be a knock out or a ground game.  James toney is a mouthy arrogant incredible athlete.
