Always Check The Barn.....

A New York man retired.  He wanted to use his retirement money wisely
so it would last and decided to buy a home and a few acres in Portugal.
The modest farmhouse had been vacant for 15 years; the owner and wife
both had died, and there were no heirs.  The house was sold to pay taxes.
There had been several lookers, but the large barn had steel doors, and
they had been welded shut.

Nobody wanted to go to the extra expense to see what was in
the barn, and it wasn't complimentary to the property anyway......so, nobody made an
offer on the place.

The New York guy bought it at just over half of the property's actual worth,
moved in, and set about to tear in to the barn.......curiosity was killing him.

So, he and his wife bought a generator, and a couple of  grinders.......and cut
thru the welds.

So what was in the barn...............?

A collection of vintage Alfa's, Fiat, Aston Martin, Lotus, Mercedes and many others totally over $35 million.  Now that is some awesome luck.

The guy worked out regularly.  So this is bodybuilding related

I wish I am never that lucky.  I just love to hear stuff like this.  Jay Leno bought an old 30's bentley or Rolls from some lady in LA that didn't even know the car was in her garage.  She said she hadn't open her garage in like 30 years or so.  I watch this show In the Attic or something like that that has people on it that live in these old houses and all of a sudden find all this neat shit from like the early 1800's or even earlier while they are looking through their attics or tearing down a wall.  It is really cool to find treasure like that.  To think that all those years nobody thought about looking in their

Seems awfully odd that the previous couple kept completely quiet about it.

If you were stealing cars, would you advertise it?

Where is it Parker in VA?
Outside of Roanoke, I'll have to ask for the exact location. I have passed thru once or twice , but always remembered all the cars. I mean you are driving on the mountain (or very large hill) and you look up you see old cars, you look down you see old cars. From the 30s,40s,50s, 60s...and yes they need to be fixed up, some are just bodies or shells, you see Edsels, Gran Prix, Ford Dueces. The owner has a some of the cars fixed up in a parade every yr. Word is that all those cars are worth a couple million if not more.

If that's the case, I don't believe it would be theirs. If 35 million is involved, somebody is going to come out of the woodwork about this.

Both Keith's and Parker's story's have been on Jalopnik. Also a cool story of Peter Max who bought every model of Corvette and stored them in a New York apartment parking garage.

There are many remote places in the south where people just horde cars on hills, or all over the place. If I get a chance I post my Granpa's 50s era truck thar had a dumptruck option 57 Olds, 65 Impala, 67ish Biscayne (looks like the 4 door Impala from Supernatural), all of them on a farm and decaying...

There was a article in MPH magazine (it was AMI magazine that is now defunct---they called out Ford and cursed in the mag), they ran a story of a eccentric French man that had a huge track of land with cars galore, rare Lamborghini Muiras with trees growing through them, Volvos, Saabs, BMW 328s, 507s, old Chevys, everything, and he would not sell them at all. Period. When he dies or gets tired, he wants everything to be bulldozed over. I mean, there are sooo few Lambo Muiras made and he has like 2 of them plus some engines.

I'm not into cars like you, but I love stories like these ones.
