May 16, 2010  — Noam Chomsky, a renowned Jewish-American scholar and political activist, has been barred from entering Israel to deliver a speech at Bir Zeit University in the West Bank.

He spoke to Al Jazeera about his hours-long wait at the Israeli border, and the explanation he was given for being denied entry.

The whole thing is a bit of a farce to be honest. Denying people entry because they criticise your country is pretty weak. Plus CHomsky is Jewish Israel is a jewish state and has no right (as per its founding document) to refuse a Jew entry to Israel. The fact that chomsky is somewhat of a self important asshat doesnt in my view provide a legitimate reason for banning him. He is pretty scathing about British policy and history, but we let him in.
