I can totally relate, been through some of this as well seems you are torn between the two. I think you have to detach and separate the two Buddhism teaches let go of the ego but at the same time you want to fit in the world and have things it is a real challenge. If you can look at like taking care of the body as one and spritual as another maybe thats a answer.

Taking care of the body is very important to spiritual endeavors for sure.

But the bodybuilding style training and diet is not ideal at all. The ideal would be more like a regimen of Yoga and cardio with a light diet.

I'm not gonna stop lifting weights though.

bullshit  ;D

It CAN be spiritual. But it's very low level. And generally it's counter-productive to ego work.

I think that as a person progresses on a spiritual path, his interet in bodybuilding with just naturally decline, because he just stops giving a fuck about the supierfical appearence of his body. He becomes the energy.

I know. I like to do it just because it gives me something to focus on, progress and work hard. It's a great hobbie. And it does make me feel pretty good.

But it clashes with my deeper instincts. I talked to a Buddhist Monk about this and he basically told me that the body should be kept healthy, free of towins, flexible and powerful. So lifting weights can be a part of it, but it's the fixation on muscles and the ego-mania that comes along with it that is bad.

It's the focus on the body, and on the material instead of the ethereal and spiritual that is bad.

well obviously the physical world is less than 0.0000001% of reality, with emotions and feelings to go with. It's good that people will do what they please while acknowledging the other sides of the picture. Ego and spirit are allways battling... me... i say embrace whatever feels good, even if it kills you, you gotta ask, what feel sensational right now, some want to focuse on what is good for you in the long run...

I can't see shit. Just the red X's.

I don't follow bro science at all actually. You don't know anything about my diet or training routine. Nice try though.

Sometimes what feels good in the short term just isn't good in the long term.

Sometimes enjoying shallow pleasures can keep you from enjoying deep pleasures.

You just gotta look at everything logically and see it from every angle. See where it will take you. Understand why you are doing it consciously.

....and instead live a spiritual and righteous life.

Bodybuilding is not spiritual or righteous. It's time I man up and do the right thing with myself instead of this unhealthy bullshit.

It's time to transform my spirit, and keep my body healthy instead of eating like a pig to gain weight and focusing my energy on m body, which is a superficial object.

I know the right path. Now I must walk on it.

When did you ever take up bodybuilding? How can one quit something they never started doing?
