NO GAME EVER compared to Super Mario 3 for the original NES when it came out. it just slayed all other games up to that point. it was the dream for most kids. the only game to come close since has been Goldeneye for the nintendo 64...a true legend.

Wolfenstein 3D!

Doom, when it first came out, was completely awesome.

Then came Quake and the original Team Fortress mod, back in the days of the dial up modems and AOL. That mod was so much fun, nothing like today's Team Fortress 2.

I've played all the Call of Duty's but the one I still play today is the COD1 Expansion Pack: United Offensive. Can't beat the multiplayer. It has a smoothness and a precise crispness that just isn't found in the more recent CODs.

 I liked duke nukem as well...i remeber my friends just harping on me cause i would play that game...i guess they didnt get the humor. But grand theft auto vice city and san andreas where great games


oh yeah i am positive that screen shot is duke nukem..not many other games had cheerleaders on the side like that one

"Shenmue 2" on the dreamcast is the all-time best video game that ever existed, by a mile.

Honestly looking back, there are actually very few of the 1000s of games that I played that really left a permanent impression for years.

Spontaneously coming to my mind:

"Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic", the first one for the Xbox
"Half-Life 2" for the X-box
"GTA San Andreas" for Xbox
"Metal Gear Solid 3" for PS3.

I remember as a promotion I got the VERY FIRST issue in the mail. Wish I still had it.  :(

I think it had Mario as a claymation character on the cover if I remember right.
