Cyclist Floyd Landis admits steroid use, names others
« on: May 20, 2010, 02:33:12 PM »
MIAMI (AP) -- Disgraced U.S. cyclist Floyd Landis revealed new cheating allegations in a series of messages to sponsors and officials, alleging that former teammate Lance Armstrong not only joined him in doping but taught others how to beat the system and paid an official to keep a failed test quiet.

Landis admitted for the first time what had long been suspected -- that he was guilty of doping for several years before being stripped of his 2006 Tour de France title.

His fresh accusations, contained in e-mails sent last month, prompted Armstrong to hold an impromptu press conference on Thursday before he began the fifth stage of the Tour of California in Visalia.

"If you said, 'Give me one word to sum this all up,' credibility," the seven-time Tour de France winner said. "Floyd lost his credibility a long time ago.

"We have nothing to hide. We have nothing to run from," said Armstrong, who later quit the race after crashing just outside of Visalia, California. Team spokesman Philippe Maertens told The Associated Press that Armstrong got stitches in the left elbow and under the left eye.

Though Landis lost his title, he denied cheating until now, and his recent e-mails detail his blood doping.

"I want to clear my conscience," Landis told ESPN.com. "I don't want to be part of the problem any more."

He claims that Armstrong and longtime coach Johan Bruyneel paid an International Cycling Union official to cover-up a test in 2002 after Armstrong purportedly tested positive for the blood-boosting drug EPO. The UCI, however, denied changing or concealing a positive test result.

Snitches. Yeah, we know, we just don't need to "know", the public is happy in pretending in it's ignorance. This is like a whore coming out from a whorehouse announce that she is a whore. "we Know, why would you be in a whorehouse"

i dont know if i agree with his motives, because he is lying, he just wants revenge........and if he is looking for revenge, he should just say "im looking for revenge"

partly i cannot blame him.....he  got crucified and humiliated and lost his livelihood while EVERYONE, specifically lance armstrong did the EXACT same thing....yet is treated like a national hero.......no one was there sticking up for floyd, so fuck them all

every top cyclist is doing this shit, so to single out one guy as th ebeast of burdon is awful

I recall some report that his blood sample from the '99 TdF (whichever the first one that he won was) tested positive for EPO when they re-tested it in like 2006 or something like that.  I don't recall the fallout.

Why do we care so much that professional athletes use drugs again?  I think someone hitting 75 home runs or riding a bike up a mountain is pretty entertaining.  If you need a pro athlete to be a rolemodel for your kid you're probably a shitty parent.

I laughed when I heard on the radio "cycling is the dirtiest sport out there almost everyone is on something".
I thought to myself, Pro bodybuilding is the dirtiest, EVERYONE is on something.

Well bodybuilding is not a sport so therein lies the problem with that comparison.

hasn't armstrong been shooting test all the time legally because of his nutt cancer? that alone should disqualify him from competition imo.

In this particular case I pretty much condone Landis' actions. Armstrong sits there like Jesus fuckin Christ on his natural throne, shitting on the ones caught. I just hope Landis has some hard evidence or that this leads to some hard evidence. Like with Ben Johnson, some are sacrificed while everyone is just as guilty. The public deserves the truth! And believe me, the public thinks Armstrong never did any drugs. At least many/most do. :D

Van_BillsAAS, what do you think their "stacks" look like? obviously these guys go for endurance, maybe some sprinting muscular "capability" but what beyond EPO is beneficial to them?

I think it's often very experimental. They try a bunch of different things they think might be beneficial, that are not on the banned lists. I mean it's hard to say what kind of difference a tiny touch of testosterone for example does between races, as far as recovery or performance on the subsequent race (Landis says they used oral Andriol or testosterone patches). "Blood doping" is still the main big thing I think. EPO or transfusions. From what I've read corticosteroids is another staple, though I don't know if they can get away with it nowadays. I assume everyone is on GH for recovery and insulin is probably popular after stages.

Historically cyclists have been very extreme, worse than bodybuilders. :D See "Pot Belge". Heroin, cocaine, valium and a bunch of different stuff all mixed into a potion. :D

I remember that amateur cyclist/journalist a couple of years back who "experimented" with gh and deca for informative sake... he gained 5lb in 2 weeks from the deca alone. thought it was counter intuitive at the time as mass gain would not be an "edge" while climbing Les Alpes ;D... For recovery makes sense..

GH is a given... no fucking wonder armstrong got cancer-everything (cause).. then no wonder he recovered so fast (benefit)
