Well, it can definitely increase symptoms. However, I am not too sure about the statistic with regard to more people killing themselves on anti-depressants.

I've heard that but what's the cause - the drug or the depression?

But yes, even drug companies recognize a dangerous phase during the first few weeks of taking SRIs.  I've seen someone go through suicidal phases when her meds get fucked up or counteracted.

Both. The drug increase symptoms of depression, thus leading to more suicidal tendencies.

I just found out that everyone and their brother take Antidepressants.

WTF?

Do you guys really need this medicine to cope with life?

Someone please explain...

Don't be so quick to judge, anti depressants are a good tool when used right. Some people have low hormones levels and drugs help this medical condition.
If you don't have a medical condition, yes other ways might be a better route.

Remember the old days, when people actually worked for their gains and when you encountered a problem feeling sad in life, you either shot yourself or pulled through it.
I like the old days. ;)

the minute you can overcome the demons in your head, you become a MFing warrior.

No challenge in this world can match conquering the beasts in your mind.

Once they are gone, the rest is but details.

but what if the demons in your head beat you up everytime?

The picture is not always so black-and-white. Very stringent views here, without all the actual evidence.

I was for 5 years I came off in October of last year.  I felt I was using them as a crutch instead of dealing with my problems.  The first couple months was rough after being on for so long.  I feel better than ever, I have feelings again and my creativity is back.

yes, i can relate to this, dont know how long you been off now?
i got serious withdrawls after 6 months of beeing clean, yes half a year , thats how long those drugs can stay in your liver and organs!
Just be prepared if shit goes down and you cant sleep for days, not to scare you, but just incase. It starts off as ainnocent fly, if you get sick a lot, thats the start.

One good way to tell if a person is clinically depressed as oppossed to having a bad day, feeling sorry for themselves, etc. is that if they're really depressed they get to the point where they don't want to do anything even things considered fun, going on a vacation, hanging out with friends, etc. And yes lower testosterone definately affects mood, unfortuneately I know first hand.

Someone please explain...

Anti-depressants(anxiety) medications are ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH REAL BAD TO SEVERE MENTAL DISORDERS. You are right.............soooo many people are on them, BUT the truth is, many people who are on them simply fake having anxiety/depression, go to thier doc, get a script. The people who do that simply take them to get a " drug high" from the meds. Anxiety/depression are probably the 2 most common mental disorders and anyone can easily FAKE having them. Feeling a little anxious/depressed is absolutely normal BUT having UNPROVOKED ANXIETY ATTACKS basically where they happen for no reason, thats when you need meds. Same with depression, simply where you think of suicide all the time, sleep all day, simply lose interest in living, thats when you need meds. Trust me, theres a big difference in feeling " naturally a little anxious and depressed" and having real bad anxiety/depression.

Anyone who says shit like " oh thats pathetic that you have to depend on a pill to feel better........or man up, and deal with it". OK..........Stop and think about this, what does someone do if they have a real bad headache/migraine???? they take a pill to get rid of it. :o ;) Also, when you have real bad to severe mental disorders, " manning up and just dealing with it" is alot easier said than done. If youve never had/lived with a real bad/severe mental disorder you will never understand what its like living with them.

And make no mistake about it, tons off accomplished, successful people have offed themselves. It's not just complete losers who do. Also not to forget that while many don't wish to use ADs many self medicate with alcohol or MJ or other drugs. The list of "great" people who also were alcoholics is just too long to post. People weren't tougher in the old days, they just had fewer options.

Old as shit but still:
TWO TOUGH QUESTIONS:

Question 1: If you knew a woman who was pregnant, who had 8 kids already, three who were deaf, two who were blind, one mentally retarded, and she had syphilis; would you recommend that she have an abortion?

Read the next question before scrolling down to the answer of this one.

Question 2: It is time to elect a new world leader, and your vote counts. Here are the facts about the three leading candidates:

Candidate A: Associates with crooked politicians, and consults with astrologists. He's had two mistresses. He also chain smokes and drinks 8 to 10 martinis a day.
Candidate B: He was kicked out of office twice, sleeps until noon, used opium in college and drinks a quart of whisky every evening.
Candidate C: He is a decorated war hero. He's a vegetarian, doesn't smoke, drinks an occasional beer and hasn't had any extramarital affairs.
Which of these candidates would be your choice? Decide first, no peeking, then scroll down for the answer.

Candidate A is Franklin D. Roosevelt
Candidate B is Winston Churchill
Candidate C is Adolph Hitler

And by the way: Answer to the abortion question - if you said yes, you just killed Beethoven.

Pretty interesting isn't it? Makes a person think before judging someone.

That's not Beethoven.  He had 2 younger brothers, Karl and someone else, and was insanely overprotective of them.  He was a complete asshole tho and most people he met pretty well wished he had been aborted.  His father was an abusive alcoholic and possibly a philanderer but I don't remember any mention of him bringing home syphilis.  Also never heard of a gaggle of defective older siblings of his, which would be pretty tough to leave out of his bio.  Someone just made that up.
