Hey genius, headbutts and groin strikes were allowed in the first few UFC events, and it didn't seem to negatively affect Royce Gracie

BTW, I agree that today there are too many restrictions like no headbutts, soccer kicks, knees to the head of the downed opponent, etc.  But, MMA is the closest thing we have to real fighting.  It's a hell of a lot closer than two guys with pillows on their hands sparring for 12 rounds

I'm guessing you didn't watch the whole fight, did you?  Gonzaga took Crocop down and nearly elbowed him into submission.  When he got back up, he was wobbly and that's what allowed the head kick.  It wasn't a lucky "one-off hit"

Also, did you see Crocop get dominated by Congo (3rd tier UFC fighter) and KOd by JDS?  Where those also lucky shots

If you like watching wrestling that is fine, but you are in the minority. Watching mma is like watching really unskilled kickboxing/boxing with a lot of sloppy wrestling thrown in. Boxing evolved from a no holds barred ruleset in it's infancy, it became more singular, largely due to the fact that grappling is not interesting to watch. It died before and it will die again.
