With the long Memorial Day weekend on the horizon, President Obama is finally addressing one of the great broken promises of his administration: his early pledge to return home to Chicago every six weeks or so.

In 16 months at the White House, the Obamas have been back home just once - in February of 2009. But they plan to make the trip over Memorial Day weekend, an official said. After arriving on Thursday night, they will visit with friends and participate in private events.

On Monday, Obama will make remarks at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, south of Chicago - missing the usual tradition of presidents speaking at Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day.

Vice President Biden and his wife will appear in Obama's place, laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as holding a breakfast for Gold Star families -- families whose loved ones died in military service -- at the White House earlier that day.

In fairness,the community he organised in Chicago is very much like a war zone,so in reality he actually is visiting "the troops".However,in this case the troops just happen to be wearing gang colors instead of the US military uniform.Hopefully the press will be there and show some of the magnificent results Obama achieved in Chicago.Perhaps he can even visit Wright and Flager if "dem jews" let him.

No,we need these enviro kooks to die so the oil companies dont have to go out 65 miles from shore in 5,000 ft water.They could drill off  the coast much more safely,but these goof ball enviro jerkoffs regulate them into a disaster.

Lots of people don’t go to Arlington for Memorial Day, but the president always has.
Yes - Memorial Day will be observed with or without Obama’s attendance, but symbolically, this is very disrespectful.

if Bush and Clinton both went to 8 Memorial Day Arlington visits, then yes, this is an extremely poor move.

If they do it some of the time, and let their VP do it some of the time, then the usual standard should apply:  It is weak, but unless you complained then, you kinda lose your credibility when complaining now.  He should be there.
