Gaming - PC and Console
« on: May 25, 2010, 09:34:42 AM »
If you would have asked me 10 years ago I would have said - No way I can see myself ever wanting to stop gaming - I kinda had a flashback a few minutes ago were I saw
myself 10 years back happy as a pig in shit gaming every little bit of my free time, and in a way as sad as it sounds it was a great great time.
I remember when I played DeusX which was THE only game I ever played that completely and 100% got my attention story wise - for some reason I thought the gamestory was incredible cool and I probably never enjoyed a game more than DeusX.
When I go even further back, I played my first games on Dos - on a 486 I believe - I remember when I played Command & Concoure First part and I COULDN:T believe how awesome the game was - I've always had the feeling that at the times when I couldn't buy all the games I wanted if I wanted and I couldn't play all the games due to hardware restrictions I enjoyed the games I had much more.

I have mixed feeling when I look back and I wonder if anybody else who is the same age as I am (35) has the same feelings.
A lot of times was "wasted" by gaming, but damn it was a lot of good fun :D

I got stuck in the wow swamp once.. I'm so fucking glad I couldn't care less about that damn game any more.

But yes, gaming is fun. My current addiction is team fortress 2 and trackmania nations forever.

I was addicted to MMOs, I won't let myself touch them now though.. it's too easy to get drawn back into the cycle. I would spend no less than 8 hours a day during the week, and 12-14 hours during the weekend gaming. I didn't have much of a social life but I wouldn't trade it for anything, I had good times.

Current addiction is COD:MW2 for ps3

People "waste" time with sports, TV, movies, reading etc.

Yeah, I'm afraid I'll get that way in a decade or two Stark. I'm only 26  now but video games are a huge part of how I relax and a strong medium for storytelling and interactive experiences to me. TV bores the hell out of me (unless the series is VERY story driven) and only a few movies a year are worth watching to me. Hell, even with series I will wait until the whole season, or series with Lost as an example, until I will watch it all in one go (not necessarily a day).

Also, saopl and lovemonkey....I too was a former MMO addict. NEVER again. I played WoW extensively for almost three years. I can look back and remember when the game was fun and if I really think about it realize when I STOPPED having fun and it was a job/addiction. My quality of life has improved greatly since I quit the game. Apparently my account has been hacked since I stopped playing (why else would I get emails about password changes?). I'm not going to do a damn thing about it either. 80k gold on the account, not to mention top-level gear. Screw it. I'm out.

The only MMO I have played that was super easy to walk away from and FUN as hell to me was City of Heroes/Villains. So currently I just play a lot of single player stuff on my 360/PS3. I have a kid now and I can't pause multiplayer. :) Although Bad Company 2 on PC is retarded fun when the wee one is napping.

its a stress release for most guys. People weren't made to sit in desks all day. Your mind needs a break. I game, but I prefer movies tho.

Well, what time isn't "wasted" on the other hand.

Does partying make more sense, fucking around, doing drugs, working out,....? Nothing what's fun makes sense, the most important thing is to enjoy yourself, and if it's by gaming so what...

I have over 3500 hours logged on xfire for the last 3 years of gaming.

I remember playing C&C Red Alert and the original World of Warcraft 1 & 2 in the 90's.

These days i play maybe once or twice a week but i used to play COD multiplayer like a madman every night.

It's the same as watching TV or a movie, different people like different things. I used to tell my girlfriend the difference between TV and PC gaming is one requires you to think. ;D

I haven't played games in a LONG time...  I want to get back into it and wanna get an Xbox cause all my friends are on the Halo bandwagon, but right now just doesn't seem like the right time to go for it.  Wonder what my wife will think when I get started!!! LOL

When I was younger I was big on games....  The Mortal Kombat series was my life LOL

I remember going way back and using DOS and playing the original Prince of Persia (coming out this week lol), I remember the graphics were so shitty, the sound sucked, it was sooooooooo slow, and there was a major delay when you pressed a key and seeing the action happen LOL  I remember playing the old Indiana jones Game, the original ghostbusters 2 game!

I also had an ATARI console LOL loved the boxing game, with the overhead shots, and the cops and robber games with all the levels and going up the stairs haaha

Later on i got into The original Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, day of the tentacle, sam and Max, Maximum Carnage!  The Leisure Suit Larry series, I had the original Game Boy, Sega Master System, then the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), and the last console I got was the Nintendo 64!

Can't wait to get back into it LOLLLLL

I know what you mean, the width of the thing fucks you up cause you can't see guys out of the corner of your eyes because of the screens size, that's why a lot of the time I'll just camp out on a roof top with claymore's around me and just snipe ;)

Still play Doom, Quake, some arcade games - always will.
Warcraft 1-3 and Diablo was ace.
Recently played some Fallout 1 and 2 - beyond fascinating.

Most games suck though - I'm omitting "today" because it has always been that way.

there aren't very many maps were you can snipe though, the game is way too fast paced.

if you wana snipe, try playing Battlefield Bad Company 2, my second addiction. strap 4 C4 to an ATV and driving it into a tank, jumping off and watch in glory as they burn slowly.  ;D
