I'm supporting the Soccer World Cup and realize it will do big things for the South African economy..... but I have really found the games long and terribly boring. 

I don't mean to hijack this thread..... but I truly believe that rugby, as a global sport, will one day supercede soccer.  Why?  It's a wonderful team game, it's very physical, there is no melodramatic acting-and-fake-calls for penalties and it is truly a alpha male sport.  What more could you ask for.

*Edit: I love the NFL too....but it will never be a global sport.

I agree rugby > soccer.....and I don't the NFL will be as big globally either.....too much equipment is required.

ruby = north american sandlot football = summer practice for those of us who played equipment ball = it will stay behind soccer.

NA football equipment to suit one kid at high school is equal to family income in some countries.

soccer = avg undersize kid like messi can become superstar

international ruby =  you still need GOOD size.



will rule to end of time. can be adapted at a volleyball net  or basketball court also.

You are wrong about size in rugby ....just look at Gio Aplon in the South African team (and yes, he's black)  ....the tiniest guy in World rugby as he scored twice against the powerful French team .....click on 2.45mins.

of course you're going to have a warrick dunn here and there as with nfl but that's not norm.  messi, ronaldinho, kaka, pele, drug addict coach for argentina are the norm in soccer as far as size ranging from 65 ins - 72ins, 150lbs - 180lbs or so.  it will rule outside of north america.  ruby is nothing but sandlot ball i played when i wasnt playing school or john brown park ball.

Warrick Dunn was a decent example.... but you would have done better with Darren Sproles or Barry Saunders.  Rugby has dozens of these little speed wizards.... which means size isn't everything.  Jason Robinson for England recently had crazy speed for a tiny guy and destroyed defences....

You missed my point..... Soccer is boring...... watch the Portugal/Spain game again.  Ronaldho was invisible despite all the $$$$$ he is paid.  Rugby will take over. Remember this conversation....

When Maradona played  he was the best in the world  (nobody even close to him  ) ,always the best in any team he played for .
