Can't. Can - 225.
It took me over 4 yrs and 25 lbs of muscle gain ( 170-195) to finally bench a legit 300 with good form.
I was impressed seeing anyone who could do 2 plates 225 when I first started in a gym

At DJ181, what are your other numbers like? I've noticed that folks that have marginal benches, usually have good pulls. Closest I got was 290 at 195ish. Once I got back to over 200, the gains where much, much easier. Biggest thing that helped was taking the old avice that "If you want to press more, press more". Once I dumped a lot of accessory work, and moved to just a pile of low rep/high volume work, the numbers started to move.

Well that lift was bout 10 years ago and I'm not a full meet guy, I just practiced the bench, and being that this was in Columbus, Ohio (home of Westside Barbell) me and my buddies caught some slack for being "bench press guys". But I suppose it helped that we were being trained by Mr. JM Blakely creator of the JM press. Have you heard of Blakely? I have an old vid of a bp meet that I did some years ago, so I'll try to find it and post it here. My friend filmed this vid and put it to music, so this vid is rather creative in my opinion with not just me and my dismal performance, but also includes other friends in it and a few female ass shots :>

I've done it for a single weighing 20 more lbs than I do now. I'm a small guy, relatively speaking. If I couldn't get it now, I could prolly get close. I don't flat bench anymore and stick to incline.

Oh, Sure, I remember reading of Blakely when Westside first started break though, older name thought, most younger guys probably won't remember him, which is a shame.

I tore my pec on the 3rd or 4th rep with 385 when I weighed 198.

My max 1 rep bench IIRC was 425, but I think I was 210 lbs or so then.

I doubt my lifts would be considered unassisted. I was always really paranoid when benching heavy (ironic that I still tore my pec) and had a spotter keep his fingers on the bar ready to assist. I cared less about being a stickler for details of the lift than I did just lifting as heavy as I could.

Man I was dumb, LOL.

385 at 198 is a double bw bench man, and that is very impressive!

I always thought I sucked at benching when I was young(er) because a few guys around me repped 405.

I never really thought about the fact that they all weighed 240+.

When I started out, my arms would fatigue before my chest would. It was like that for probably the first 2 years I trained.

JM says that the bp is 75% tricep, and he points to the fact that many fellas have come back from having a tore pec and end up pressing more weight after having this injury.
