Japan's prime minister Yukio Hatoyama resigns

If only Obama would have the same decency! Why does the USA keep these bases active anyway? They would save a lot of money by closing them down. This is what happened to the Romans they tried to maintain their reach and crumbled from within. At least learn from history and take care of your home first. Forget about trying to keep all these bases those days are gone.

Japanese politicians resign when they don't follow through on promises?  Our dirt bag leaders could learn a thing or two from these guys!

They knew what it was to be honorable before they sold their souls.

It sounds like a joke that a politician resigns because he didn't keep the promises he made before elections. I think there's more to this but still it's hard to imagine a politician in the US or Europe or pretty much anywhere in the world to quit for not doing what they promised.

iono what the deal is with this guy but the japanese culture is very concerned with stature and respect...its not uncommon for businessmen to resign if they make mistakes etc...

remember this is the culture that not but a hundred years ago or so would commit ritual suicide in order to not be disgraced...

Indeed the Japanese uphold honor and responsibility but I never thought we would see that in politics. You can find honest and honorable businessmen, artists, laborers in any country but not politicians, they appear to be universally corrupt due to the nature of their profession. I doubt we'll ever see something like that in the US.

Yep, they uphold it sooo much that they are willing to hide evidence, ie Toyota, Mitsu, etc.

IMHO... those bases mean that Japan will never drop the dollar should a lot of other nations try it.

I mean, the last thing any country wants in 20,000 suddenly-broke (dollar-defunct) Marines with the best weapons in the world stranded in their backyard.

You really think the Japanese government wants the US military gone with the way North Korea is acting?  ::)

A country that was one of the initiators of a war that encompassed most of the planet and then lost really shouldn't be in any position to tell us what we can and can't do.

you make a great point about the govt doing things that are necessary, even though the ppl want something different.
