U.S. vs Haiti

When the earthquake hit Haiti, or any natural disaster hits anywhere else besides America, we always have a plan, and endless, money, resources, and man power. We come up with every single thing these people need and they have it with in a week.  Billions of dollars are gathered, and alot from BIG movie stars.  Well when America now needs an effort like that, where are the movie stars holding fund raising concerts, where is the  effort from everyone to help end this and take care of the people affected. We rush to help everyone else like we are responsible for them but look at the lack of effort when America and Americans are hit with something horrible.               

And where are all these other countries rushing to give us shit like we do them?

I see your point, and I agree we give the rest of the world far too much. But--- when your number 1, you don't need or expect number 283849 to help.

It's the same principle in baseball. If an entire section of Yankee stadium collapsed, I don't think the KC Royals would do much to help.

Ok  but where is that same effort from america to offer help to other americans in need , the same effort givin to other countries when something happens?  so far we have fumbled this around more than a peewee football team. The fed wont give La. the resources they are begging for, and all this admin cares about is hurrying up and getting some law suits filed and playing blame game .  Where are the big movie stars that are such tree huggers, where the military effort, where is the funding, where are the supplies?  If it was another country they would have endless limit of all of that

Ehhh- that cuts both ways though.

I like to think that we give aid to all of these other countries because they do things for us on the DL or they support our interests, give us intel, or provide us with some sort of military advnatage. Also, make no mistake, some of the aid we give is nothing more than a public relations stunt- most of it will do nothing but line some corrupt government officials pockets.

In this country we give a ton of money to those who need it through government programs, welfare, unemployment insurance,-- shit- we even give help to those in the country illegally. On top of that, the poor don't get taxed, recieve free medicare ( And soon Obamacare)free legal representation, and on and on. We could do more ( although I think we do enough, we just waste the money on stupid things).

Pro makes a good point.  We always open the wallet print money to help any country in need, even our "enemies."  We rarely see relief efforts on the same scale to deal with domestic problems.

I get his point, but when you consider the fact that most 2-3rd world nations don't have the same abilities on even local, city and state levels that we do, its easy to see that our help goes a long way and isn't usually needed on the same scale domestically.

People can donate money to Haiti, feel good about themselves, and never think on it again because the problem never hits our shores until there's more immigration. Helping Americans takes more time, money and long term planning/commitment than most of us care enough to do invest.

I wouldn't expect a country with no money like Haiti to do much for us.

It may seem that way on the surface and may even be very true beneath the surface as you say.  There isn't much more they could have done or are doing with this oil spill, had it been another country, we probably wouldn't have a front row seat to  the politics, that we get to see and hear about here.  So to us, it would look like one big effort to get it done, while maybe the in the inter workings of another country's politics steep criticism on how the help is being utilized, money being spent, grand standing etc.. is being debated and talking about on their talking head shows or not, if its a dictatorship we are helping at the time.

If I recall there were a ton of relief benefits to assist New Orleans when Katrina hit.
There was not as much `outside`help because Bush turned it all away, but alot was offered.

I hardly think the situation in the gulf equates to the situation that took place in Haiti.
