Andy Stern, former head of Services Employees International Union (SEIU) and a President Barack Obama appointee to the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, said on Monday that the free market has failed the country and American workers. He made his remarks at a conference of the Campaign for America's Future in Washington, D.C., on Monday. (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr) (CNSNews.com) – Andy Stern, the former head of the Service Employees International Union who now sits on President Obama's National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform, said the United States needs an economic plan that does not include “worshipping” the free market.

“America needs a 21st century economic plan because we now know the market-worshipping, privatizing, de-regulating, dehumanizing American financial plan has failed and should never be revived, worshipping the market again,” Stern said in remarks at the annual conference of the liberal activist group Campaign for America’s Future in Washington on Monday.

“It has failed America and everyone that works here,” Stern said.

Stern said the changes that Obama and Democrats in Congress have made are nothing short of a “revolution” that will move the American economy from national to international.

"This not our father’s or our grandfather’s economy," Stern said. "We’re as far today from the New Deal as the New Deal was from the Civil War. And we cannot drive into the future looking in the rear view mirror."

He said the progressive movement must build on the past and look to the future as the economy is transformed "from a manufacturing base, to a service, finance, knowledge, green, Internet, and bio-science economy."

“This revolution’s going to only take 30 years,” Stern said. “No single generation of people have ever witnessed this much change in a single lifetime.

“American people sense the change,” Stern said. “They know something is different.

“And they, like us, I think, are in search of a new pathway forward,” Stern said. “And as we’ve witnessed now in the absence of a simple and realistic way forward, people – even us – sometimes resist the future or try to turn back the clock to days that are now long gone.

Arianna Huffington, editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Web site, said at the conference that her organization is encouraging Americans to 'shrink big banks' by withdrawing their money from them. (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr)Joining Stern on a panel that opened the conference was Arianna Huffington, editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post Web site, who called for people to “shrink the big banks” by withdrawing their money; and Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, CEO of the "social justice" environmental activist group Green for All.

Ellis-Lamkins told the crowd how she responded to conservative media personality Glenn Beck’s charge that groups like Green for All have an agenda to change the country’s direction.

“I said, ‘Absolutely we have a plot to take over this country,” Ellis-Lamkins said.

Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins also spoke at the conference about creating a better future for her family members and other disadvantaged Americans by giving them access to 'green' energy technology and jobs. She is the CEO of Green for All, an environmental social justice advocacy group. (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr)The Campaign for America’s Future describes itself as “the strategy center for the progressive movement.”

“Our goal is to forge the enduring progressive majority needed to realize the America of shared prosperity and equal opportunity that our country was meant to be,” the group’s Web site states.

The organization’s board includes President Eli Pariser of Moveon.org and Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP Washington Bureau.

Sponsors and partners for this year’s “America’s Future Now” conference include the National Education Foundation (NEA) and the AFL-CIO.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is scheduled to speak at the conference on Tuesday and Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) on Wednesday

SEIU’s Stern Tops White House Visitor List.Susan Davis reports on the White House.

________________________ _________________

Promising “transparency like you’ve never seen before,” The White House released its visitor log this evening under a new voluntary disclosure policy.

The log chronicles 481 visits to the White House from individuals ranging from Jay-Z to Bill Gates from January through July.

The list includes William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Michael Moore, Robert Kelly (R. Kelly), Malik Shabazz, and Michael Jordan.

But the White House said those aren’t the guys you’re thinking of.
Nor is the log complete.

“A lot of people visit the White House, up to 100,000 each month, with many of those folks coming to tour the buildings. Given this large amount of data, the records we are publishing today include a few ‘false positives’ – names that make you think of a well-known person, but are actually someone else,” Norm Eisen, a special counsel to the president, writes on the White House blog. “The well-known individuals with those names never actually came to the White House. Nevertheless, we were asked for those names and so we have included records for those individuals who were here and share the same names.”

Adds Eisen: “This unprecedented level of transparency can sometimes be confusing rather than providing clear information.”

One thing is clear: Service Employees International Union President Andrew Stern holds sway at the White House, where he’s listed for 22 visits—the top number on the logs. Visitors in the top 10 also include former Clinton White House Chief of Staff John Podesta, former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, National Organization for Women President Kim Gandy, and NARAL Pro-Choice America President Nancy Keenan.

News flash 333.  The country hasn't been a manufacturing base for decades.  Globalization has been occurring for years and you're just now waking up to it?  Wow you are late.

And guess what, until we get back there, UE will stay at 10% or greater and we will continue to national insolvency.

Get back there how 333?  Are you prepared to pay twice as much for your consumer goods as you do now?  Or better yet have people earning 5 cents per shoe?  Of course not.  Globalization is capitalism 333.  Outsourcing for cheaper labor is a time honored tradition in American business and it's been going on for decades.  But now you worry and now you want the jobs back?  Give me a break.  You're nothing more than a sheep following some CT you made up with your friends in someones basement.

And guess why companies offshore jobs?  The stupid govt, via taxes, regulations, mandates, etc have pushed companies away from building anything here. We cant exist as a consumer nation and the whole "green" bs is what it is BS.  Look at Spain.  For every "green job" created they lost 2.2 real jobs and bankrupted themselves in the process.

Haha you're kidding right?  We don't have any 'green' jobs 333.  It hasn't even been passed or put into any legislation.  Companies go offshore to exploit workforces who will literally work for free.  Something that is impossible to do in America for obvious reasons.  They use the might of the US dollar against a lowly third world currency to pay the bare minimum to these people, i haven't purchased a sweat shop made item in a very long time because of the inherent wrongs of paying someone a pittance for working 12 hours a day 7 days a week.
