SAN DIEGO - A bodybuilder and personal trainer accused of molesting an 8-year-old girl pleaded not guilty Wednesday to three felony charges.
Henry Franklin "Hank" Butler, 35, was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail.
He faces 25 years to life in prison if convicted of one count each of forcible lewd act on a child, committing a lewd act on a child and oral copulation on a child under 10, said Deputy District Attorney Marisa Di Tillio.
Butler, owner and head trainer at Train with Hank Personal Training Gym on Park Boulevard, was arrested last Sunday evening after police searched his home, said SDPD Detective Gary Hassen.
Those who trained with Butler are shocked by the allegations, "I know he has kids that are clients of his, I just don't believe it," says Patrick Twohig. "I worked out with him 2-3 times a week. He's a good family man. He has an older son, a young step-daughter and a baby on the way, says Zoltan Illes.
Police declined to disclose the defendant's relationship, if any, with the alleged victim.
Judge David Szumowski scheduled a readiness conference for June 25 and a preliminary hearing for July 13. Butler's gym is located across the street from Birney Elementary School.
