Who knows? Maybe they are trying to drive everyone to some kind of mass murder/suicide.

Cultural relevatism at work, how glorious.

They are annoying as hell, but maybe they won't be so energetic once the last African teams has lost out.

If you tough guys don't like it, then when don't you show up to the matches and take them from these blowers and jam them up their @sses or down their throats ;>
Because unfortunately neither of those actions would stop air from being blown through them. :(

And let's face it: how many men have already tried amplifying a fart through a vuvuzela? I'm betting thousands. ;D

These things are driving me nuts, as they sound like a swarm of bees when watching the matches.  Hopefully, they will be filtered out in the upcoming matches in South Africa, or at least ban them from the fans.

If you don't know that they are, (from wiki), a vuvuzela, sometimes called a "lepatata" (its Setswana name) or a stadium horn, is a blowing horn, approximately one metre in length, commonly blown by fans at football matches in South Africa.

In any case, USA was lucky to tie against the might England, but a tie is a tie.

As for BANNING them, it was discussed

The vuvuzela came to international attention during the run-up to the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup, both hosted in South Africa. The world football governing body, FIFA, wanted to ban the use of vuvuzelas during the World Cup 2010 because of concerns that hooligans could use the instrument as a weapon and that businesses could place advertisements on vuvuzelas. However the South African Football Association (SAFA) made a presentation that vuvuzelas were essential for an authentic South African football experience,[2]  and FIFA decided in July 2008 to drop the ban, allowing vuvuzelas at Confederations Cup.[20]  President of FIFA Sepp Blatter opposed banning the vuvuzela, saying "We should not try to Europeanise an African World Cup."[21]  FIFA ultimately decided to allow the instrument for the 2010 World Cup as well,[22]  except for Vuvuzelas being longer than one metre.

I didn't know you were a huge soccer fan, Ron

After the chairman of the tournament's South African organizing committee said he would consider a ban on the monotone trumpets, Blatter axed the idea of a ban in comments posted to the short-form web site.

"I don’t see banning the music traditions of fans in their own country. Would you want to see a ban on the fan traditions in your country?" Blatter wrote.

"I have always said that Africa has a different rhythm, a different sound."

Those fucking horns should be fucking banned, and I don't give a fucking rats ass what any do-gooder douche thinks.  Soccer is a world game, and those fucktards should be honoured to host the World Cup.  The horns do nothing but detract from the game in EVERY way.  The only people who like them are the retreads in the crowds using them and the Chinese assholes who manufacture them.  What's 'traditional' about a plastic trinket that ruins soccer games?  Fucking idiots!

South African soccer fans who prefer their matches to be vuvuzela-free can now take three easy steps to sonic freedom.

A user on social networking site Twitter has posted simple instructions for resetting your television's sound equaliser - a move that will drown out the drone of vuvuzelas without muting other sounds.

The instructions are:

Enter the sound settings for your TV and find the equaliser.
Drop the 300Hz channel (which Samsung TVs have, second from left), and raise the adjacent levels.
Save as a custom set-up (if you can).

Eric Smit, the assistant manager at Samsung Store in Canal Walk, did a spot test and found that it worked on both low-end and high-end TVs.

"I can relate to the people who are saying the equaliser can lower the sound of the vuvuzela on your TV because vuvuzelas are blown at a specific frequency. On the TV you can set the frequencies at high, mid and low level," he said.

Meanwhile, the BBC has said it is considering offering "vuvuzela-free" coverage via its red button after hundreds of complaints.

Fans say the droning sound of the plastic horns, which has been likened to the buzzing of millions of angry bees, is drowning out coverage and leaving them with aching eardrums.

Now the BBC is looking into providing "clean" coverage, which would strip out most crowd noise.

A BBC spokesman told Britain's Daily Mail on Monday night: "We have already taken steps to minimise the noise and are continuing to monitor the situation. If the vuvuzela continues to have an impact on audience enjoyment, we will look at what other options we can take."

not sure if it was mentioned, but i think it's because soccer fans need something that reminds them of a dick in their mouth at all times.
