This thread went up earlier this week - Bohenner saying the taxpayers may have to help BP - and all the angry Obama haters who scream when his wife buys expensive tennis shoes...

They were all silent on it. They chose not to criticize it. Weird.

So far as ameriac is concerned ...maybe you can use the money that you swindled the rest of the world out of with your real estate/ wall street/banker games...you do remember those don't you? Probably because everyone expects BP to pick up the tab. You could hold 100 telethons over the next 10 years and not raise what BP makes in one quarter of a year.

Don't hold your breath for these fisherman - you just have to look back to Exxon Valdez - I think the damages in that case were $5 billion. I don't think the area every fully recovered.

Why should the celebrities pay for or throw concerts for something done by a foreign company? This was not a natural disaster that decimated a nation that could not and can not help themselves financially back to where they were before. BP like all other petrochemical industries has made money hand over fist for decades....they are loaded. Britain has said and done essentially nothing in the form of paying for what has happened in america even thought the event occurred in INTERNATIONAL WATERS off of america....it is affecting america something terrible and will for years to come. While I sympathize with the fishermen, farmers, environment, animals, sea life etc etc...I can not condemn the celebrities, people, telethons for not doing much if anything. Given the state of everyone's wallet and pocket book, they probably can NOT do much. I don't see america embargoing BP, or threatening them, or lining carrier ships up around Britain etc etc. However I do see them around Iraq, Iran, Gaza, Cuba, Southeast Asia, etc etc....priorities a bit mixed up?? Tell your lame ass president to go to Britain and TAKE THE GOD DAMN MONEY FROM THEM. He and the president before didn't hesitate to take the oil from Iraq...What's the problem.

well then you have BP to blame, they are the ones that went national telling everyone that they would take care of everything!!!!!! They're the ones that said, on national TV, that they would take care of all the cleanup and pay for all legit claims for business lost. BP MADE NATIONAL CLAIMS TO EVERYONE IN AMERICA THAT THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. So you can see why there wouldn't be relief effort when they very publically said, "Hey, we got it..." So do you blame celebs and us at this point or do you blame the people that said they had it covered?

oh IMO BP isnt off the hook, but I can speak for myself when someone or a company says oh we got it covered, I know they wont live up to it. Again its not who's to blame, it's about helping our own, plain and simple. I think we, american, need to rally for our own no matter if mother nature is at fault or not

I understand what you are saying here and I understand the desire you have to get something done...the problem is until the gusher is stopped, there is nothing that can be done. Clean up will be a waste of time for multiple reasons. One, you can't clean up anything if the oil is still gushing; two, if it were possible to clean it up, what would you do with the waste?; three, there really are no methods to capture the massive amount of oil in the sea...it all is not floating on top of the water, thanks to BP adding the dispersant, much of the oil is under the surface of the sea, which makes it impossible to capture. To give you some sense of the magnitude...just one of the multiple oil streaks under the sea is 30 miles long, 10 miles wide and 300 feet thick. Even if the oil gusher could be stopped right now...do you know how long it would take to capture that much oil...it is mind boggling.

They have taken advertising spots all over the country to say this, it's been translated in the media, they have paid major search engines like google to return their site and their message in the number one spot. Everyone has primarily heard their message. How the hell is anyone going to do a fundraiser with a giant cast shadow in the background saying, "We're paying for it" So like I said, if you want someone to blame, blame BP!!!

2. The Federal Govt does bear some responsibility for the mess due to the cotrruption, arrogance, and ineptness of the MMS.
