A high-level British offer of help to clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was rebuffed by America shortly after the accident, fuelling fresh fears of political tension between the two countries over the disaster. A few days after the BP-leased rig sank on April 22, the Cabinet Office made a direct offer to the US State Department to airlift half of Britain’s 1,200-tonne stockpile of chemical dispersants, The Times has learnt.

Has been clear since he vanished for 40+ days before commenting on it. Easy way to push that shit while also furthering our dependence on foreign oil, thus destroying more of our sovereignty.  :-\

US names 13 countries, plus UN which have offered oil aid Module body

Thu May 6, 11:31 AM

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States said Thursday it had received offers of aid to clean up the Gulf of Mexico oil spill from Canada and Mexico, 10 European countries, South Korea and the United Nations.

The US State Department said there was no immediate need for the assistance offered but that the US Coast Guard was trying to evaluate whether there would be in the future.

"These offers include experts in various aspects of oil spill impacts, research and technical expertise, booms, chemical oil dispersants, oil pumps, skimmers, and wildlife treatment," the State Department said in a statement.

The State Department announced Tuesday it had received aid offers from 12 countries and international organizations but refused to identify them, saying it would only name the countries when and if it accepted aid from them.

But in a switch, the State Department identified 13 countries and one organization which had offered to provide aid.

They are: Britain, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and the United Nations.

The State Department said Washington was grateful for the offers of assistance.

"The US Coast Guard, the lead US agency in this response, continues to monitor developments and evaluate specific needs, and is currently reviewing offers of assistance," it said.

"While there is no need right now that the US cannot meet, the US Coast Guard is assessing these offers of assistance to see if there will be something which we will need in the near future," it added.

BP succeeded on Wednesday in capping the smallest of the three leaks hemorrhaging crude into the Gulf, but this did not reduce the rate the oil gushing into the sea, estimated at 5,000 barrels, or 210,000 gallons a day.

British politicians protecting their own.  BP's stock has taken a rather big dive, a lot of British pension funds have shares in BP so there is a lot of outrage over the tough rhetoric by the Obama admin regarding BP.  I would see this as nothing more than window dressing to look like they are doing something to ease the angst of the public so that negative attention doesn't turn on them.

The story makes no mention as to whether the United States has those agents and what quantities they have themselves.

The parrots took Bush to task for refusing foreign help on Katrina and yet now they're shockingly silent.

Perhaps both BP and the Coast Guard didn't think they needed them at the time.  If you're the President you listen to your own people first, foreigners second.  If his own coast guard was telling him they didn't need it why would he go get foreign help/aid?

You really stretch pretty far with this nonsense 333.  On one hand you condemn some liberals who blamed Bush for a lack of response to Katrina, and now you act just like a liberal blaming Bush.  It's actually pretty comical to see you turn into a whiney lib.  The one thing you hate the most.

No I said Bush looked like shit, but that Nagin and blanco bore more of the blame in that.  Bush warned people to be get out and have 72-96 hours of provisions on hand.

The vermin who stayed had obnly themselves to blame, along with 'Chocalate City" Nagin and Blanco who refused to evacuate people because they could not find union bus drivers to ddrive the school buses.
