They have also been charged to court for causing grievous harm to the victim, who was identified as Lawal Abubakar.
The incident occurred in Kanfanin Doka village, in Birinin Gwari Local Government Area.
The prime suspect, Rabiu Sani, was said to have asked the victim to gather some firewood for him, for a fee of N60 unknown to the victim that it was a ploy for the suspect to execute his dastardly act. Daily Sun gathered that it was in the process, that he tied his hands and plucked his eyes.
Abubakar, who was writhing in pains, was said to have shouted for help, which attracted passersby to the scene. They gave the suspect a hot chase and eventually caught up with him and dragged him back to the scene. On getting there, they saw the hapless teenager in a pool of blood and his eyes missing. The suspect was later handed over to the police.
Sani, who spoke to Daily Sun at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Kafuna Police Headquarters, narrated how he used local blade to remove the eyes. He claimed it was one of his friends, Musa, living in Jaji, who asked him to procure two human eyes for his boss, who lives in Abuja, for ritual. According to him, the man needed the eyes to prepare charms for disappearing from danger zone.
“He promised to pay me N1 million, if I could get the eyes and I contacted my partner, a 63-year-old Adamu Gada, who encouraged me to carry out the operation. I went to inform him that I already had a boy, tied in the bush. But that I couldn’t remove his eyes, as I was scared of doing so,” Sani said. Sani, from Zamfara State, claimed that Gada gave him a concoction to drink, after which he was emboldened to carry out the crime.
“I got charged and went back and used the blade to remove his eyes,” he said. But, while Gada admitted knowing Sani, he denied sending him to get human eyes for him. He said he was surprised when Sani brought the eyes and asked him to keep them for him.
“I kept the eyes in a hole dug in my house. I was surprised that they came to arrest me.”
The victim, who spoke to Daily Sun in the hospital, explained that when Sani asked him to gather firewood for him, he never suspected he had the plans to pluck his eyes for ritual purposes. “As I was searching for firewood, he promised to pray for me to succeed in my studies. Before I knew it, he pushed me down and tied my hands. If I knew that was what he planned to do, I would have run away,” he said.
The Police Commissioner, Mr. Tambari Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect had been remanded in the prison after he was charged to court for conspiracy and causing grievous harm on the victim. Meanwhile, members of the community, where the heinous crime was committed have appealed to the government to ensure that the suspects are brought to justice.
