Spider-man the racist???
« on: June 16, 2010, 02:30:31 AM »
Is Spidey a RACIST???
Yup, everyone's favorite superhero has a black eye in his history!!
Check it out!! During the 60's Spider-man cartoon run, the episode
the "One Eyed Idol" Spidey calls a black Aborigine a "doggie" and
whistles at him like he is a dog. Further proof is that Disney never
replayed this episode on their channel when they aired the repeats of
this series. You be the judge at about 3:50 into the ep!!

Grow up, what're you like 13?

Spider-Man is calling him that, probably in reference to his "wildness", not specifically because he is black.

And the main reason Disney doesn't replay this is because depicting Aboriginal men/women as inherently evil characters is just inappropriate.

In the 60's National Geographic was a big thing, and exposure to various tribes, immune to modernization, was a novelty. They were easy targets.
