Clinton: Obama Administration To Sue Arizona Over Immigration Law

QUESTION: Thank you very much. I would like to start with the immigration debate in the United States. The recently approved law in Arizona has presented sort of a difficult scenario for the President Obama Administration. According to some polling, half of the United States has approved this law and maybe other states would like to implement it. How’s Obama Administration dealing with this debate? Is the immigration law near reality?

SECRETARY CLINTON: Well, Andrea, first, let me say how pleased I am that I have this chance to talk to you about these and other important issues. President Obama has spoken out against the law because he thinks that the federal government should be determining immigration policy. And the Justice Department, under his direction, will be bringing a lawsuit against the act. But the more important commitment that President Obama has made is to try to introduce and pass comprehensive immigration reform. That is what we need. Everyone knows it, and the President is committed to doing it.

Arizona's doing the work that Barry won't.  Is that typical liberalism? haha

Not like they're busy doing anything else. If they handle this with the urgency they've shown with the BP spill, you can expect them to make a move around 2014.  :)

He's done absolutely nothing to address this burgeoning problem, but steps in now to abdicate the closest thing to a solution that state has.

He shouldn't even think of reversing AZ's policy until he can at least offer a suitable (effective) alternative, which...

When “the people” is anyone other than those who live here legally, work here legally, pay their taxes, etc.

Ironic that the people who follow the rules have the least amount of rights & representation.
We're simply told we should be more tolerant and accepting of those who enjoy for free what we must work very hard to earn - because those same people who bleed the system dry are vital to our economy...

I'm starting to get irritated at the fact we have 2 more years left of this, maybe 6.

I was not happy with the Bush admin and I'm starting to become even less happy with this one.

Governor Jan Brewer Learns of President’s Directive to Sue Arizona
AZGovenor.gov ^ | June 17 2010 | Governor Jan Brewer

Posted on Thursday, June 17, 2010 7:54:39 PM by curth

PHOENIX – Governor Jan Brewer said she was stunned and angered to learn during an Ecuadorean television interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the Obama Administration had decided to sue Arizona over its recently passed anti-illegal immigration law, SB1070.

Video of the interview can be seen at Governor Brewer’s Arizona Border Security Information website: www.azgovernor.gov/AZBorderSecurity.asp Secretary Clinton announced during the interview on June 8th that President Obama has directed the U.S. Justice Department to “bring a lawsuit against the Arizona law.”

“This is no way to treat the people of Arizona,” said Governor Brewer. “To learn of this lawsuit through an Ecuadorean interview with the Secretary of State is just outrageous. If our own government intends to sue our state to prevent illegal immigration enforcement, the least it can do is inform us before it informs the citizens of another nation.”

Governor Brewer said, “I just visited with the President in the Oval Office about our differences over immigration policy, and the one firm understanding we had was that within two weeks he would provide details of his commitment to deploy National Guard troops to the border. While I am grateful that communications have taken place about a possible visit by Administration staff before the end of the month, there is not yet a confirmed date. More importantly, no information about additional troop and border security enhancements has been provided by the Obama Administration to the citizens of Arizona.”
Governor Brewer recently announced the creation of a legal defense fund for private contributions in defense of Arizona’s illegal immigration enforcement measures – www.keepazsafe.com.

Over $22,000 in contributions have been made to the border legal defense fund since its announcement yesterday evening. Over $26,000 had previously been sent unsolicited to the Governor for legal defense of Arizona, for an approximate total of $48,000 in the fund.
