[ABC News] — With the support of Sen. Chris Dodd, D.-Conn., the federal government has awarded $54 million to Connecticut’s politically well-connected Mohegan Indian tribe, which operates one of the highest grossing casinos in the U.S.

The tribe runs the sprawling Mohegan Sun casino, halfway between New York City and Boston, which earned more than $1.3 billion in gross revenues in 2009. Each tribe member receives a cut of the profits, a number a tribal official said was “less than $30,000″ per capita per year. The stimulus money is a loan from a U.S. Department of Agriculture rural development program that is meant to help communities of less than 20,000 people that have been “unable to obtain other credit at reasonable rates and terms and are unable to finance the proposed project from their own resources.

Lynn Malerba, chairwoman of the Mohegan Tribal Council, defended the award of the stimulus loan to the tribe, and said that every member of Connecticut’s seven-member Congressional delegation except one had provided assistance in securing the funds. “The whole Connecticut delegation, I think aside from [Rep.] Jim Himes, who was traveling, sent a letter in support.”

Bryan DeAngelis, communications director for Sen. Dodd, confirmed Dodd’s support for the loan. “Senator Dodd supported this project in the same manner and for the same reasons he supports federal assistance for other Connecticut projects – creating and preserving local jobs,” said DeAngelis. “The only factor that mattered in Dodd’s support of these loans was job creation and economic recovery in Connecticut.” A former aide to Dodd, Charles Bunnell, is Chief of Staff for External and Governmental Affairs for the tribe.

Since I worked in gaming commission for both tribes in Connecticut let me fill you in..THIS IS UTTER BULLSHIT...Per state compact with the tribes and state of CT a member of the gaming commission HAS to be on the casino grounds 24/7. We always had at least 7 of us per shift.

To access the countrooms (either hard count, coin money or soft count). At the end of the counts, the room supervisor runs a report. It breaks down, everything including profit..Now I been out of the casinos for 10 years but I know first hand, they make a shit load of profits from just the count rooms and food, beverages and the alike.

That being said let me tell ya a little story about Mr. Dodd. One night, Connecticut State Police Casino Unit gets a call that Barbara Streisand and Sen Dodd coming to the casino and his guards are carrying (per compact only the executive of gaming commission and CSP are allowed to be armed). I got the call because I was the supervisor on duty. I met up with CSP detectives and Casino Shift Manager. They open a table that was closed just for her. As they sat down,in the high roller pit of course, I inspected the cards and gave the green light to Surveillance.
Im standing against the wall next to two CSP detectives (plain clothes obviously). The dealers back is to me and I see the faces of her and dodd with his bodyguards behind them. The limit amount, per plaque states min bet of $100 bucks. Being the by book person I am, I made Casino Shift Manager change the plaque to 5 buck minimum (thats all she was betting).
Next thing I know, Im walking over to the pit phone to make sure everything is going okay with another dibacle going on. I see the dealer taking hits on 17, im like WTF..Called Surveillance and had them zoom in even though they already spotted it. Im like WTF, call my boss at home and said what do you want me to do, he was there in a half hour and took care of the rest LoL..nothing happend except a few pit bosses and the shift manager were fired. I dont blame the dealer, she was being told what to do, suspended for a few days.

Second of all, they charge 12 bucks for a pack of cigarettes and they dont pay taxes on them..WTF they doing with all this money besides giving the tribal members monthly checks
