Ive had both and enjoyed the beaters more...no car payments and you dont give a fuck about petty little shit like you do with a super nice car...I resented the nice cars because of the price and enjoyed the beaters for what they was...and they got me were I was goin which is the whole point

e 39 bro, you cant go wrong with that one...
The E39 M5 ain't for sale---but it's been calling my name, all black with tinted windows...plus if it were for sale, I would be  paying a pretty penny.

The e28 535i is like a 86-88, because it has the third brake light in the rear window. The seats have rips in them (leather rips from age, sun, use), and the leather is oxblood. The car reminds me or my dad's old 166 Volvo (straight 6, 1975), RWD.

e28 parker you can get the seats fixed much cheaper than payments for years.

I think in his mind a 1987 5 series is some kind of classic... !?! I laugh when I see mercedes/bmw's from the 80's on the streets, the style is so old it doesn't look right.

I said beater, but remember what I said about "what it could become"?
A clean ass black e28 5 series with classic BBS wheels is the shit.
Also, I don't know what the deal is with it, like bigdumbell said, it could have lots of shit wrong with it.

But here is what someone did with that "piece of junk"...not that I would do this, it would defeat the purpose of saving money...

A few hours ago today I was at a local foreign car garage that specializes in German (particularly BMW and Porsche). He has several cars out on the lot including a 2003 BMW M5 and various Porsche 911 Turbos, but what has really gotten my attention is a 1987-88 BMW (E28 chassis) 535i. It still has registration plates on it, and chances are it may need work. It's a manual, and looks the "beater" part. I'm intrigued by it, plus if it is good shape, I would rather drive that and save on gas. Good idea or no?

NO.  Because 9x out of 10 it is not in good shape.

I buy a new car every 3 to 4 yrs. I'm not a mechanic and I drive alot so I like the dependability of a new car. But if you can get it and you know how to work on it hell why not car payments suck ass, we have 2 car payments monthly and it sucks!!!

Some the richest people in the world drive used cars and are penny pinchers. Warren Buffet still lives in the original home he bought for $31,500.

Many Mercedes and Bmws from the 80s do look good with the right stance. And two of the most coveted enthusiast cars from the 80s have a cult status. That would be the E30 M3 and the Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5-16. Both of them were raced in DTM and Touring car races. Then you have the AMG Hammers and the 500Es from the early 90s. Also the CL coupes are classics as well.

A clean looking car can fit in all the time, like a clean 80s GTI.

Newmom, if I get a new car it will be the 2011 BMW 1M...

Good choice those fuckers will run forever.

I had one of those for years ('92).  Best car ever except in the snow.  Had to put Hakkapeliitta's on every winter.

You want to save gasmoney?

How many hours/week do you plan on
spending fixing the car?

Not sure about that one, all fixed up still look a bit
odd and homemade.

If you want a project I think you should find a cooler base car to work on.
Maybe even just a frame and start building from scratch.
Like one guy made a Ferrari F40 replica only 346hp but he will put in twin turbos aiming for 500-550hp
cost for the parts was 35-40K
